April is Animal Cruelty Prevention Month, and this weekāApril 15 to 21āmarks Animal Cruelty Awareness Week, a time to speak louder for those who canāt.
Cruelty wears many masksātradition, profit, ignorance and indifference, neglect and abandonment, abuse and exploitation.
It happens behind closed doors, on busy streets, in homes, and in industries that thrive on suffering.
Itās in the shrug that says, āItās just an animal.ā
Letās speak up for the animals who are victims of unspeakable violence.
For the animals chained, starved, abused, and forgotten in their own backyards.
For the stray animals seen as a nuisance, thrown in cages, their lives cut short because they are ātoo manyā and āunwanted.ā
For the animals treated not as lives, but as mere commodities. Animals whose suffering and pain come with a price tag, accepted and justified for profit.
For the animals trapped in breeding millsābodies worn down by endless cycles of exploitation, their lives reduced to profit.
For the animals forced into blood sport for human amusement.
For the animals in circuses, zoos and theme parks, confined and broken in the name of āentertainment.ā
For the animals in laboratories, restrained, poisoned, blinded, and killed in the name of āscience.ā
For every voiceless soul who screamedāand no one came.
Change doesnāt come from the comfort of looking away.
It comes from compassion and courageāand animals need both now more than ever.
They are not ājust animals.ā
They are lives.
They feel fear.
They feel pain.
They feel betrayal.
And they remember.
If you see abuseāreport it.
If you can helpādo it.
And if you truly careādonāt look away.
Be the change. Speak up. Do your PART.
