Dragonet fish are typically very pretty fish. The prettiest and most famous is probably the mandarin fish, but personally, we also really like the Kuiter’s dragonet.

This small fish, which can grow to around 15 cm, has intricate patterns, beautiful colours, and gorgeous fins.

Our dive guides always love hearing about our guests' wish-list critters and favorite marine animals so they can keep an eye out for them during the dive.
This time, though, we thought we'd turn the tables and ask our team: What's your favorite critter? :-)

Not an easy choice, considering the incredible variety of marine life we have around our resorts!

And yes, for those who were wondering, we did invest in a state-of-the-art microphone! 😄

A few months ago, we had the pleasure of welcoming Danishark Elasmobranch Research Association on a trip to Tubbataha. Their goal was to confirm the presence of a school of hammerhead sharks and study their behaviour.

They were successful in their endeavour, observing a school of more than 25 individuals near Jessie Beazley Reef—an important finding for the Hammerhead Shark Schooling Research Project by Danishark.

Tubbataha has long been renowned for its pristine reefs, incredible marine biodiversity, and the diversity of shark species that inhabit its waters.
The Danishark findings have now "confirmed the potential of Tubbataha as a study area for one of the most fascinating and vulnerable species of the oceans".

It's always a thrill to see a hammerhead shark appear in the blue. Their distinctive hammer-shaped head is unmistakable. Far more than a unique feature, it is packed with electroreceptors that help the shark detect the faint electrical signals produced by prey hidden on or beneath the sand.

Tubbataha truly is a special dive location for many reasons, including for its healthy shark populations.

"Scientists from Large Marine Vertebrates Research Institute Philippines (LAMAVE), Tubbataha Management Office (TMO) and Marine Megafauna Foundation (MMF) have found incredibly high numbers of reef sharks in Tubbataha Reefs Natural Park (TRNP), Philippines. The numbers are higher than most other marine protected areas (MPAs) around the world and highlight the importance of large, well-managed marine protected areas like TRNP for the conservation of reef-associated sharks and rays"

The Philippines is one of the very few places in the world where you can reliably encounter the majestic thresher shark. 🦈

At Kimud Shoal, these elegant sharks emerge from the deep in the early morning to visit cleaning stations, giving divers a rare opportunity to observe them up close in their natural habitat.

Several of our liveaboard itineraries visit this special location, giving you the chance to dive with these graceful sharks.
And we're offering 20% off selected Atlantis Infiniti departures in October!

Come and join us for a truly magical experience!
