This unique ambush predator is a master of mimicry, sporting bumpy skin that resembles toxic sea sponges and using modified pectoral fins to "walk" along the seafloor. To hunt, it dangles a specialized dorsal rod and worm-like lure above its mouth to entice smaller fish. When prey gets close, it expands its oral cavity in milliseconds, creating a high-pressure vacuum that swallows the victim whole.

This strikingly vibrant dorid nudibranch features a dark body accented by intense purple, blue, and orange hues. It is easily identified by its prominent, bright red-orange rhinophores and matching branchial plumes that serve as gills Like other members of the genus Nembrotha, it selectively preys upon colonial ascidians (sea squirts), accumulating defensive chemical toxins from its food to deter predators.

Those elongated, fan-like dorsal fin rays are equipped with highly venomous spines. While a sting is rarely fatal to humans, it causes severe pain, swelling, and systemic symptoms. While they are a natural, integrated part of the ecosystem in their native Indo-Pacific home, they have become a highly destructive invasive species in the Atlantic, Caribbean, and Mediterranean waters. Because they have no natural predators there and reproduce rapidly, they pose a critical threat to local coral reef biodiversity.

This large marine reptile features a smooth, streamlined shell and powerful, paddle-like flippers that make it an exceptionally strong long-distance swimmer. Unlike most other sea turtles, adults are strictly herbivorous and feed primarily on seagrasses and algae, which gives their internal fat a distinct greenish color. It frequently acts as a host to remoras, which use a specialized suction disc on their heads to cling to the turtle's shell to catch a free ride and eat shedding skin or parasites.

This elongated sea slug is covered in dense, fan-like rows of frilly appendages called cerata that are used for respiration and defense. It harbors tiny, single-celled symbiotic algae inside its body tissue that process sunlight, allowing the adult slug to generate its own nutrients entirely via photosynthesis. To defend itself from predators, it can safely consume venomous hydroids and store their active stinging cells inside the very tips of its frilly branches.
