The island paradise of Palawan continues to draw global recognition, securing the 13th spot in Travel + Leisureβs 2024 World's Best Islands list. With a score of 90.59, Palawan stands among the top 25 islands to visit around the world, based on votes from the travel magazine's readers.
The Maldives topped the list, followed by Phu Quoc in Vietnam, Bali in Indonesia, Milos in Greece, and Dominica. Despite fierce competition from other top destinations, Palawan remains a favorite among travelers due to its stunning landscapes and natural beauty.
In addition to its global ranking, Palawan also ranked fifth in Travel + Leisure's list of 5 Favorite Islands in Asia, following the Maldives, Phu Quoc, Bali, and Thailandβs Koh Samui.
Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco praised the recognition, calling it an inspiration for all Philippine tourism stakeholders.
"This award will encourage them to promote sustainable tourism and showcase the Philippines' unparalleled natural beauty and hospitality," Frasco said.
Maria Margarita Montemayor Nograles, chief operating officer of the Tourism Promotions Board, highlighted Palawanβs exceptional beauty and the dedication of its people in delivering world-class experiences.
"We remain committed to preserving and promoting the island's natural and cultural heritage for generations to come," Nograles added.
Known for its white beaches, fascinating limestone cliffs, hidden lagoons, and lush rainforests, Palawan continues to captivate nature lovers and adventure seekers. The island is also home to the Puerto Princesa Subterranean River National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site.
Visitors can also immerse themselves in the culture of indigenous communities like the Batak and Tagbanua or enjoy fresh seafood, adding to the islandβs diverse offerings for travelers.
