UMAARAW NA, LIWLIWA! ☀️
Kamusta na ang Liwa? We’ve seen all the discussions about our changing beach, and we want to share a perspective from the first families who've called this place home.
For us, the ocean’s power isn’t a new story. For decades, our families have watched the sea shift and reshape our shoreline. It’s a natural cycle. Our elders remember when the very land we now stand on was still underwater back in 1998. That's why the first families here, including ours, built with light, temporary materials—as we knew the coastline was always moving.
Some are calling recent events "the downfall of Liwliwa," but we beg to differ. The Liwliwa we've always known was peaceful and full of a helping hands, not a place of greed for selfish ambitions. With every setback the seasons bring, we are still here. Smiling, and always ready to rebuild.
We're so grateful for the tourism that has helped our community, but we hope people remember that this isn't just a temporary escape for us. This is our only home—the very ground our families have held onto for generations.
To our friends and guests who have become like family: thank you for standing with us. Your support, especially during these tough times when we're beaten down by the typhoons and other challenges, means everything. You are the ones who never forgot to respect the culture and the local community where Liwliwa started. We hope our long-term perspective adds another layer to the conversation, and we are grateful for those of you who continue to be stewards of our community and environment. 🙏🏻
