The Maya Bird (Lonchura atricapilla) and the Revolutionary History of Caloocan.

This national costume, is a breathtaking homage to the Maya bird—once the national bird of the Philippines and a symbol of the everyday Filipino’s humility, agility, and enduring spirit. Shifting away from traditional textiles, this avant-garde creation transforms the candidate into a majestic avian deity, flawlessly marrying the richness of Philippine fauna with the fierce, independent identity of Caloocan City.

From Humble Bird to Mighty Hero
Just like the Maya bird, which is small yet incredibly resilient and omnipresent in the local landscape, Caloocan holds a legacy of grassroots bravery. Known as the "Cradle of the Katipunan," Caloocan is where Andres Bonifacio and the brave Katipuneros sparked the Philippine Revolution.
