TIPS TO ALL TOURISTS VISITING VIGAN DURING THIS LENTEN SEASON:
- when Crisologo Street is crowded, you can go at the opposite streets, Plaridel or V. Delos Reyes St., its now cobble stoned. Less the crowd, same feeling.
- if still crowded and have the time, you can come back during the golden hour (4:00am) before the sunrise.
- check on our centuries old carozza heirlooms during the Estacion General on Palm Sunday (April 2 at 5pm). Our Mater Dolorosa and Pieta carozza has one of the most sorrowful and beautiful faces in the Philippines.
- our next procession will be on Friday (Biernes Santo) Be sure to wait for the Santo Intierro and be amazed how the religious locals genuflect as it passes by.
- ask a local where to find Goloria, Bolero, Masa Pudrida and Londres. These are delicacies made special during lent.
- the yearly Semana Flea Market is located at Burgos Street.
- A night market is also open every weekend this April at the Vigan Public Market from 6pm to 12 midnight.
- All church activities and celebrations for Lent will be at the Divine Word College of Vigan Quadrangle.
- the carrozas will not be displayed at the cathedral for public viewing like the past years. This is because the cathedral is still fragile after the earthquake last 2022.
- local folks gather inside the Plaza Burgos for "tinuktok". I wont tell you what it is, go there and find it out yourselves.
- our beach is located at Brgy. Mindoro. The most western barangay in Vigan. You may pitch a tent or grab a cold beer during sunset.
- we have no Starbucks. 3 in 1 is love!
- try our sorbetes or dirty ice cream. They are at corners of Crisologo Street.
- there is a public toilet at the back the stage of Plaza Burgos and at the heritage office in Calle Crisologo. Just leave a peso or two for maintenance.
- there are few (if not none at all) trash bins. So, "pag maliit lang na basura, ibulsa muna." As you can see, our city is clean. Please do your share before we charge environmental fees. 😂
- the dancing fountain show is 7:00PM. Make sure to be there early to have nice viewing spot.
- try our "monggo" or halo halo. It's almost in every street in Vigan.
- keep yourself hydrated.
- walk. Anywhere inside the heritage district of Vigan takes 10 mins.
Have blessed Holy Week, everyone! 🙏
