LOOK UP: RARE BLUE MOON GRACES THE SKY TODAY
Skywatchers can witness a rare Blue Moon today, May 31, as the Moon reaches its full phase for the second time this month at 4:45 p.m., according to the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
Despite its name, a Blue Moon does not appear blue. The term refers to the second full moon occurring within a single calendar month, a phenomenon that happens roughly once every 2.8 years due to the mismatch between the Moon’s 29.53-day cycle and the calendar year.
The last Blue Moon occurred on Aug. 31, 2023.
