Chitral Gol National Park is home to the rare Himalayan Wolf. This video shows the wolf chasing markhor and other wild goats inside the park. This park is famous in the country and the world for its many different plants and animals.

The Himalayan wolf is one of the rarest and hardest-to-see animals here. That is why seeing one is a very special event. This special sighting lets families on wildlife safaris see and take pictures of these rare animals in the wild. It is also a chance to learn about mountain nature and how to protect it.

When early spring sweeps across the hilly landscapes of the Chitral Valley, nature comes alive in remarkable ways. As the snow begins to melt, clear streams rush down the slopes, soaking the valleys below and transforming them into marshy patches ideal for the growth of diverse alpine flowers that thrive in the moist, cool environment. At the same time, the melodious songs of birds fill the air, adding a gentle rhythm to nature’s unfolding music. Early spring in Chitral is truly a season of wonder, renewal, and quiet beauty.

The hardy yak thrives in the mountain regions of northern Pakistan, especially the high altitudes of Chitral, Broghil, and the upper Karakoram, where few other domestic animals can survive. It combines traits from cattle and wild mountain ungulates: a powerful, compact body, remarkable sure-footedness on steep, rocky ground, and a rare tolerance for extreme cold, thin air, and harsh weatherβ€”all clearly visible in the image.

While naturally strong-willed and sometimes appearing wild, yaks have been successfully domesticated over generations by mountain communities. Through selective breeding and traditional herding, they have become one of the toughest and most dependable animals ever tamed in these high environments. They serve as pack animals, sources of sustenance, and enduring symbols of resilience.

Yak milk and meat are highly valued for their rich nutrition and distinctive, unique flavor. They are fundamental to the traditional diets, food security, and livelihoods of high-altitude communities, particularly where agriculture is severely limited.

Honoring this deep heritage, Terichmir Hotel and Pamir Trotters consistently feature yak-based cuisine. Yak BBQ is especially highlighted and ranks among the most popular and requested dishes for tourists visiting Chitral. During treks into remote areas, guests are also served traditional tea made from yak milk and blended with yak butterβ€”a custom rooted in Tibetan and Central Asian traditions that has long shaped the region's food culture.

Adding a further unique layer to adventure tourism, Terichmir View Hotel organizes Yak Safaris. These provide an authentic high-mountain experience on routes such as from Lashkar Gaz to Karambar Lake in the Broghil region. The safaris offer an environmentally suitable way to travel in fragile landscapes while allowing visitors to connect intimately with local traditions, pastoral life, and the impressive endurance of yaks in some of Pakistan’s most remote and stunning terrain.

Chitral town carries the cultural heart of the region. The historic Chitral Fort and the Royal Mosque stand at its centre, drawing the interest of visitors, local historians, and anyone curious about the area’s past. Nearby, the Chitral Bazaar offers a lively place to walk through, browse traditional handicrafts, and pick up local souvenirs.

Not far from the Terichmir View Hotel is the Chitral Museum, which holds rare pieces from Kho, Kalash, and Nooristani cultures. The displays give a clear sense of how people in these communities lived, made art, and shaped their traditions over hundreds of years.

Every few days, the freestyle polo matches at the Chitral Polo Ground add excitement to the town’s routine. Watching the game is a good way to see the strength and skill of local players, and it also offers plenty of chances to take photos and record moments that capture the living culture of Chitral.

Shagram, a calm mountain settlement in the upper stretch of Torkhow Valley, serves as the tehsil headquarters and a practical junction for travelers moving deeper into Upper Chitral. From here, one road climbs toward Khot Valley on the left, while the other follows the Torkhow River on the right, tracing its way through Zanglasht, Ujnu, and a series of smaller villages before reaching Rech.

Rech is familiar to most trekkers as the access point for the Shah Jinali route, one of the region’s established high-pass treks. The usual and more workable plan is to continue up to Ruah, the last village in Rech, and spend the night there. Leaving at dawn from Ruah gives trekkers a cleaner start, better light, and enough time to settle into the gradual ascent before the real elevation gain begins.

Gol Gol is a famous natural sight in the Chitral region, known for its stunning views and rich plant and animal life. It is located in the Golen Valley, just past the village of Koghuzi along the Golen Nullah (stream). The last inhabitable village Birmogh. After this point, the land changes into thick alpine meadows and forests, which locals call the "Jungle." This is where the highland trekking paths begin.

From this starting point, two main trails split off. The first path goes east and climbs up to the historic Adnwir Pass. This trail leads to the beautiful Madaklasht valley after trekking down the slopes of Ghochar Sor. Madaklasht is well-known for its lovely meadows and wide, scenic views.

The second trail turns to the northeast. It goes up steadily toward the Phargam Pass. This high pass acts as a gateway into the remote Laspur Valley in Upper Chitral. From here, you can see amazing views of snow-covered mountains and untouched highland pastures.

The area around Gol Gol is home to a wide variety of plants and animals. You can find juniper trees, wildflowers, many migratory birds, and sometimes even spot Himalayan wildlife. Because of this natural beauty and the well-defined trekking routes, the valley is a top choice for nature lovers, photographers, and adventure seekers. The best time to visit is from spring through early autumn, when the weather is pleasant and the landscape is green and full of flowers.
