One of the 10 climbers believed to have gone missing after the avalanche at Broad Peak is reportedly missing

Famous Nepali mountaineer Nirmal “Nims Dai” Purja is among the 10 climbers who are believed to have gone missing after the avalanche on Thursday in the Karakoram region of Pakistan (8,047 m). Rescue operations were postponed due to bad weather conditions; it is expected to resume when helicopter operations improve conditions.

Despite communication with the rescue team being cut off, the GPS tracking device of Purja’s GPS device is reported to continue to record movement; this increases the hope that the team members are alive. The rescue operation is being coordinated by Pakistani authorities, the Pakistan Alpine Club, and the rescue teams from various international mountaineering clubs.

The missing climbers are part of a group of climbers from Nepal and other countries. Authorities state that the search operations are ongoing and new developments are expected to be announced once the weather conditions improve.
