Mud, ropes, and island-wide views — your daily PlayaHaven trail drop for Fri, Jul 31 is live:
TODAY'S MOUNTAIN REALITY:
Heat Advisory in effect until 4pm AST — high 90F low 79F, feels like 105F+ in the valleys. Passing showers early, then mostly cloudy with afternoon buildup. This is peak damp season — trails are soaked, roots are slick, rivers are up. Start by 6:30am, off exposed ridges by 1pm.
EL YUNQUE - LIVE ALERTS:
Same closures as yesterday and still enforced: La Mina Trail CLOSED, Big Tree Trail CLOSED, El Yunque Peak Trail open only to Los Picachos viewpoint then CLOSED beyond the spur to the peak for retaining wall repair. Baño de Oro CLOSED. Corridor open 8am-5pm. If you go, use the workaround: Caimitillo Trailhead → Mt Britton Spur → Road 10 to the tower. That's your best view today.
LOS TRES PICACHOS - ADVENTURE CHECK:
3.1 mi, 1,706 ft, ropes + vertical mud. Sunrise 5:49am sunset 7:00pm. Forecast: showers early then clouds holding. East winds. UV 11. Not a dry-day summit — expect rope sections to be greasy and technical. Only for experienced crew with traction shoes, gloves, 2L water. Sacred Taíno peaks — 360° Atlantic to Caribbean if clouds lift. Turn around if thunder builds.
PR-10 CORRIDOR - YOUR FAVE:
Toro Negro / Charco La Confesora — short access, perfect for a quick waterfall dip after the heat. Road is scenic but foggy in afternoon — drive slow.
WHAT TO POST:
Caption: Heat advisory up, ropes are slick, views are wild. Tres Picachos is NOT playing today — early start, heavy water, real shoes only. Who's sending it? Save this for your PR mountain day.
