Conservation in progress 🇵🇷

PR NEWS 🐸🇵🇷: More than 12,000 endangered Puerto Rican crested toad tadpoles have been returned to Puerto Rico as part of a conservation effort to help restore one of the island's rarest native species.

Known as the sapo concho, it's Puerto Rico's only native toad. Once believed extinct in the wild, it was rediscovered in 1966 and remains endangered due to habitat loss and invasive species. This year's release is the largest single breeding effort in Brookfield Zoo Chicago's conservation program.

The sapo concho also gained worldwide recognition after Bad Bunny introduced Concho, a character inspired by the endangered toad, throughout his Debí Tirar Más Fotos era. Brookfield Zoo credits that exposure with helping introduce millions of people to Puerto Rico's only native toad.

Every step toward protecting Puerto Rico's native wildlife helps preserve the island's unique natural heritage for future generations. 🇵🇷
