Sometimes you have to decide if you want to hangout on the rooftop with some of your favorite guests, or go downstairs and play your favorite board game with some other of you favorite guests. Life is hard and you have to make difficult choices, running a hostel in Puerto Rico. Somehow I think I'll just grin and bear it and hope I somehow make it through the night...

Just a typical week at the Hippo: A 80 year old crashing with us while he searches for a good boat to repair and make his home. A family of four celebrating the birthday of their six-year-old twin girls. A gal who just retired from the coast guard passing through, eventually on her way to renovate and take a Volkswagen van through all of North, Central, and South America. Oh, and she gifted us a bottle of rum, which we all (except the birthday girls) shared up on the roof. You are never too old or young to adventure in Puerto Rico!

For the first time in years (the last time being when I sneaked 2 dozen cookies out of the college dining hall) - I have more cookies than I can eat in one day.

Thanks to the best sister in the world (5 types of homemade cookies - all more delicious then mere words could portray)!

P.S. Come stay at my hostel, we have cookies!

Hippos in the Caribbean? Well the idea for the name started about 10 years ago in Africa. It involved not eating hippo burgers and boycotting false advertising. While we in fact do not have hippo burgers we are at least open about this truth.

​Josh and I recovered this building from a friend. He ran this as a hostel up until hurricane Maria swung through. After weeks of hard work we are happy to host more adventurers on their travels!
