4 Things You Didn't Know About Ginkgo House β Our 1911 Historic Home in Hinton, WV
If you've walked down Fifth Ave in Hinton, you've seen her. Here's the story behind our Ginkgo House:
1. MRS. RUDGE β THIS HOUSE STILL HAS A TEACHER
This was the home of Mrs. Rudge, English teacher at Hinton High School (1980-1999) located directly across the street. We kept her original teacher's desk, her Blenko glass apple, and her keys on the wall. When you stay here, you're staying in a piece of Hinton High history.
2. GINKGO HOUSE β IT'S NOT NAMED FOR THE TWO OUT FRONT
Yes, the two front ginkgo trees on Fifth Ave are famous every October when they drop their golden leaves. But the house is actually named for the massive private ginkgo tree in the backyard β nearly 8 feet in diameter. It's the reason for our custom barn quilt.
3. BARN QUILT β CUSTOM MADE BY A HINTON ARTIST
Look for the green and yellow ginkgo leaf barn quilt on the front porch. It was custom painted by a local Hinton artist just for this house. No other vacation rental in Summers County has one.
4. 1911 β ACROSS FROM HINTON HIGH. MINUTES TO NEW RIVER GORGE.
Built in 1911, fully restored as a 4-bedroom, 2-bathroom vacation rental that sleeps 8. Located in historic Hinton, WV - 5 minutes to the New River and Sandstone Falls, 20 minutes to New River Gorge National Park & Preserve, and steps from downtown Hinton restaurants and shops.
Perfect for fall foliage trips, family reunions, and New River Gorge getaways.
