Visible from the balcony, a piece of history!
The Old City Hall of Almada, possibly from the 18th century, included a prison and a court. It was in this place that the Republic was proclaimed on October 4, 1910, the eve of the official proclamation, with the unfurling of the republican flag.
Pelourinho de Almada was in front of this building from an unknown date until it was destroyed in 1868, after which the remaining two pieces are kept in the convent of Santo António dos Capuchos, in Caparica.
A Antiga Câmara Municipal de Almada, possivelmente do século XVIII, incluía uma prisão e um tribunal. Foi neste local proclamada a República no dia 4 de outubro de 1910, a véspera da proclamação oficial, com o desfraldar da bandeira republicana.
O Pelourinho de Almada esteve em frente deste edifício desde uma data desconhecida até ser destruído em 1868, após o que as duas peças restantes estão guardadas no convento de Santo António dos Capuchos, na Caparica.
