Some places have a soul of their own. Even after years of being quietly asleep, that soul is still there, waiting to be awakened. 🌿
This photograph was taken while Aljana was still a work in progress — my sister and I, standing among the dust and the unfinished walls, imagining what this place could become.
The space already had its own character, its history and its sense of place. Our role was not to reinvent it, but to bring out its potential and give it a new life.
From the very beginning, we imagined Aljana as a place of making people feel welcome — somewhere where the beauty of the Alentejo, the simplicity of its landscape and the warmth of its people could all come together.
Looking back, this was the beginning of something very special.
Not the creation of a place from scratch, but the awakening of one that had been waiting quietly for its next chapter.
And perhaps that is what makes Aljana so meaningful to us. 🤍
