Quinta Vale do Mondego There will be a lot of clearing to do in order to get this quinta back to it's original shape. After everything is cleared the build can start.

Parque de Campismo Rural Quinta Vale do Mondego consists of two parts, one down by rio Mondego for leisure and off the grid camping purposes and the other a bit higher up near the village where the official campsite is situated. In 2014 we, Peter van Zundert and Suzan van Zundert Niermeijer, first set foot, I should say wheels really, on this property when we were visiting friends nearby. There ar

e huge bramble bushes to be concurred, grape vines need to be cut back, dry walls restored, fallen trees and shrubs need to be taken out and this is just to get a clear picture of the land. One ruin will be converted into an apartment for renting out, the other ruin will be extended and refurbished into our house. A million smaller projects, for instance hydro and wind energy, solar heated bathroom with a view or the veggie garden will lead to one goal. This goal is to turn an old forgotten quinta into an 'off the grid' paradise, where you can find tranquillity in nature and enjoy simple things like picking apples or go for a swim in the river.

We had a visit from N2 Overlander Lodge this weekend. They have a beautiful quinta in Sardoal sort of at the beginning of the famous Rota N2 that runs from Chaves to Faro.
They are refurbishing a big ruin to rent rooms and already have 3 pitches for small campervans and cars with roof tents. Just look at their page and you will see how beautiful their place is.

The Nacional 2 also known as Portugals Route 66, is 739 km long and brings you from North to South crossing 35 municipalities and running through diverse landscapes. 🌄
In Chaves or Faro you can get a special douvenir passport to collect stamps in the way. 🛃

We planted homegrown succulents and yuccas on the walls next to the pool and we used millions of mimosa seedpods as a mulch to prevent the soil from drying out by the sun. This area just keeps getting better, hopefully by this time next year these walls will be completely overgrown with beautiful flowers plants.🥰

Passadiços do Mondego, we had heared so much about this walk so we decided to go for it. Only 1.¹⁵ hour away, we were almost baffled by the beauty of this part of our beautiful Mondego river. 😍
It is about 12km and takes 5h, but... We took a shortcut as in we took a taxi back to the carpark at the lowest point of the walk because from there it only went up...🫣
The walk is mostly over wooden walkboards, stairs and suspension bridges and the views are breathtaking. When we were ther there was a lady selling homemade goods and fruits as well. 😋
At the start you can get a 2 euro 50 entrance ticket, but you can't pay with cash.

We have seen a lot of rental campervans, but never have we had Indie camper twins before! 😅
