Quinta Vale do Mondego There will be a lot of clearing to do in order to get this quinta back to it's original shape. After everything is cleared the build can start.

Parque de Campismo Rural Quinta Vale do Mondego consists of two parts, one down by rio Mondego for leisure and off the grid camping purposes and the other a bit higher up near the village where the official campsite is situated. In 2014 we, Peter van Zundert and Suzan van Zundert Niermeijer, first set foot, I should say wheels really, on this property when we were visiting friends nearby. There ar

e huge bramble bushes to be concurred, grape vines need to be cut back, dry walls restored, fallen trees and shrubs need to be taken out and this is just to get a clear picture of the land. One ruin will be converted into an apartment for renting out, the other ruin will be extended and refurbished into our house. A million smaller projects, for instance hydro and wind energy, solar heated bathroom with a view or the veggie garden will lead to one goal. This goal is to turn an old forgotten quinta into an 'off the grid' paradise, where you can find tranquillity in nature and enjoy simple things like picking apples or go for a swim in the river.

Easter brunch, what a perfect day this was. Everybody brought some food to the table, we ate, laughed, ate more, played proper professional amature petanque, and last but not least there was an Easter egg hunt.
The hunt was on, like really on, age didn't matter some even tried to bribe the Easter Bunny... 🐰

This winter we have had more rain then any winter since we live here. Like every winter 'our' river Mondego turned into a monster. Because we don't have any dams above us we don't have to worry, but so many people living downstream of any dam in any river are in trouble. When a d**e broke Mondego has flooded the lower Coimbra region, taking down the A1 which connects Lisboa and Porto. In other parts of the country villages are cut off due to landslides... 😔
But...this wet season is finally coming to an end somewhere in the next week! We got a sneak preview of the sun yesterday, as soon as it showed itself we had already forgotten the last weeks of torrential rains. We need rain, but enough is enough, let there be SUN!!! ☀️😍

A new year has begun and we already made a good start. Or, what I really should say is, you made a good start by visiting us! 😀
German Frank came back for a visit and he returned with more liquorice!😋
Several guests stayed for a night to visit the mountain the next day.⛄
And last night a Dutch young couple visited us with their old-timer campervan. This beauty was manufactured in the same year as we were born, what a year 1975! 🎊

We are wishing all of you out there a year filled with many safe kilometers or miles and lots of beautiful places to explore.💖🥰

New year's dive anybody? We had two slightly crazy people who thought it was a good idea to do so in our pool... 😲
The water was 8 degrees, just a little bit to cold for me to dive in.🥶
I am pretty dure I am more of an afterparty person...hot chocolate anybody?🫣😅😂
