Dear Queens & Kings,

The third edition of HIM Dub was incredibly powerful, filled with such rich and diverse energies, cultures, and languages that words cannot fully capture what our hearts truly feel.

Last year, your valuable ideas helped us strengthen the foundation and core of the Festival. A good place to sleep, a great toilet system, functional showers, nourishing food, and a quality sound system—these were the basics we focused on for this edition.

Since nothing should be taken for granted, we once again turn to you with the same request: help us continue building a Festival that feels like home, that looks like a safe harbor, and that feels like a dream come true.

The power to act, speak, or think as one wants—freedom—was given to us as the golden, untouchable, and unremovable ultimate good.
Free, as in not in bo***ge. Free, as in loved, delivered, liberated—liberty.

For years, it has been twisted, manipulated, judged, corrupted, and turned into a financial exchange where freedom is owned by those who deserve it. Music, nature, and water, combined with emancipative tools of action, knowledge, and understanding, empower the whole concept of freedom for a few days. We danced and laughed, cried and swam—alone or in company. We met new people, discovered new music, and experienced new sensations. We walked barefoot and crafted ceramic plates. We may seem like utopians, but we just seek for freedom.

We want mutual respect, understanding. We want to be heard and answered. We want trust and curious interactions. We want to dream and believe.

Thank you for that, because it already exists. Thank you for creating a field of trust and a cradle for expression. With a leap of faith, we will continue to believe in a shared, secure, safely kept, and sheltered space for freedom to expand.

Building Alliances Discussion and interactive play: The Voice of Water with Anja Henckel

Water doesn’t adhere to borders; it flows freely, connecting diverse places and cultures. But even though it’s so important everywhere, managing and conserving remains a significant challenge in our interconnected world.

Join activist and producer Anja Henckel who will update us on the ‘Aliança pela Água’ in the Odemira region and what is moving the region since the demonstration ‘Marcha pela Água’ in 2021. She co-organises projects and events like ‘Jardim do Mira’ and ‘Odemira Territorio Regenerativo’, which bring together the international and Portuguese local players of the region. And Samuel Viana Meyler, one of the makers of documentary ‘Esta é uma Historia Sobre Agua’ 26min (This is a Story about Water), which won best film in the Portuguese Short films category 2024 of Cine Eco, one of the biggest international environmental film festivals.

Anja and Samuel collaborate as members of the Aliança pela Água SW Portugal and would like to bring a positive activating energy to the festival.

SunRoots Souljah, selector and collector, who shares a sound journey with Jah music.

With his strickly Vinyl collection, he tells the story of Reggae Roots and Uk Dubwise from the 70’s to the present day, with the involvement of Jamaican and African rhythms mixed with Bass.

The musical experience that he transmits is inspired by Jah Shaka, Aba Shanti-I, Gussie P and Mixman Blackamix, who are his main references in the dub scene.

His Rasta Revolution brings conscious music, as a weapon to fulfill the mission of spreading peace, love and unity.

The Mbira is a very melodic percussion instrument. Originally from Southern Africa, its sound transports you to a peaceful world. Like the Hangdrum, it is very intuitive to play and easy to learn. In this workshop, we will learn about the history of this instrument, the manufacturing process, and, of course, we will learn to play it. During the workshop, there will be room for improvisation, and we will learn songs from traditional Mozambican music, such as Chemtengure. Looking for a new hobby? Do you enjoy trying out new instruments? Maybe you think you’re not skilled, but would love to know how to play an instrument? Then, I look forward to seeing you at the workshop. Everyone is welcome.

Mbalango is a multi-talented Mozambican artist. He is a musician, composer, and Mbira maker. Born in Maputo in 1986, he graduated from Mozambique’s National School of Music. His relationship with the Mbira was love at first sight. For more than 10 years, the Mbira has been Mbalango’s main instrument. Eight years ago, he started making his own Mbiras, and for the last five years, he has been active as a Mbira teacher. In Maputo, he founded an Mbira orchestra in his neighborhood so that the children could have the opportunity to play an instrument. Since coming to Portugal, he has been spreading the sound and knowledge of the Mbira here.

Opening camping ceremony on the 27th of August at the Roots Garden with

« Reggae com Yoga » blends Yoga, Bioenergetics, and Maranhão’s Reggae A2 (dance in pairs) to activate creative energy through movement, music, and breath. This workshop uses Kundalini Yoga and Bioenergetics techniques—such as breathing exercises (pranayamas), yoga postures (asanas), and pelvic tension release through dance—to stimulate Kundalini energy and promote self-regulation.

Focusing on unity through Reggae, it integrates Brazilian, indigenous, and Afro-descendant cultures. Open to all levels and nationalities, it fosters connection with the body, breath, and others while teaching Reggae A2 dance. No prior yoga or dance experience is required.

.soundsystem at the Roots Garden spreading roots and culture !

Backyard soundsystem is a Bruges-based soundsystem consisting of Sunny, Steady, Pepi and Vvl. With their great passion for roots reggae music and the culture around it, they built their first speaker box in the early 2020s, which has evolved over the years into a full grown hand-built sound system.

Their main goal is to spread the culture like in the golden days of reggae music, in a way that everyone can enjoy.
