The work of both artists engages in dialogue from a common point — light. In particular, sunlight as a transversal and metaphorical reference. The intense palettes of their works and their formal structure resonate with modernist aesthetics.
Glass, a concrete element that evokes both fragility and refraction, recalls Philip Johnson’s famous Glass House, from which the inhabitant can see everything around them, making the exterior also part of the interior. Here, this element serves as a filter, evoking the artists’ gaze. In their works, this gaze — laden with intention and questioning — disperses the world into forms and colors.
If modernism once translated modern life into new languages, it is within that legacy that Graça Paz and Bruno Grilo find resonance. Their works not only echo modernist boldness but also revitalize it.
