Cada 10 de junio, los portugueses celebran el Día de Camões, de Portugal e das Comunidades Portuguesas.

El día marca la muerte de Luís de Camões en esta fecha en 1580. Camões es conocido por su trabajo Os Lusíadas, el poema épico nacional de Portugal que celebra los éxitos de la nación y su rica historia.

Os Lusíadas representa los logros de Portugal en las exploraciones del mundo en el siglo XVI. El país tuvo un importante papel en el descubrimiento del nuevo mundo durante este siglo. El poema de Camões captura la esencia de esta época dorada para los portugueses, ya que se mantiene como una de las mejores obras y más relevantes de la literatura portuguesa. La influencia de su obra Os Lusíadas es tan profunda que el portugués se llama “lengua de Camões”.

The ‘Day of Portugal, Camões, and the Portuguese Communities’ is a national holiday celebrated by the Portuguese nation every year on June 10. The date also celebrates the life of Luis Vaz de Camões, Portugal’s national poet.

Luis Vaz de Camões (c.1524-1580) wrote ‘Os Lusiadas,’ [The Lusiads] Portugal’s national epic poem celebrating the memorable 15th century Portuguese historic achievements.

Located at about three miles above the town center of , this park was inaugurated in 1960 on the grounds of , previously owned by the Reid´s family.
The “ ” ( ) in Funchal displays over two thousand exotic plants both endemic and from all over the world such as , , , , and . Although a botanical garden is a beautiful place that exposes and , it is also a place of science and .
Throughout the garden, visitors will find plants that are identified by their scientific and common names, family and place of origin.

Within the “Jardim Botânico” there is a small displaying collections of , , , , , and other , an Amphitheatre, , a terrace café and a belvedere which shows off a fantastic view of Funchal.

The Pico do Arieiro is the third highest peak of Madeira. It has 1818m of altitude, just after the Pico Ruivo with 1861m and with 1851m.

is located in the hills of , and is a must visit attraction, as it allows you to have a view over much of the island and (if the weather allows it).

Here you can see from the east end, the tip of , to the and the mountains of . You can also see the , on the valley floor.

It is easily accessible by car, and the journey from the centre of Funchal takes about half an hour, Expected to rise toward the , always following after spending this beautiful parish, to the , where you should turn left towards the and Pico do Areeiro.

It is in the Pico do Arieiro that begins one of the most spectacular walking routes (PR1 – ), which goes to the . This route has a length of about 7km, through cliffs, steep slopes and some tunnels. During the course, you will be able to observe several types of realities, from wild vegetation, arid and rocky scenery, at high altitudes, as well as overworked landscapes in the lower elevations, as in locations that can catch sight. It is advisable to take some precautions, including the use of lanterns and clothing and appropriate footwear.
