Madeira has almost no sand.
The beaches here are stone — calhau, rounded by the sea over a very long time. Even the sand at Calheta was brought in from somewhere else.
It is also the floor of this house: a bed of it under the basins in all three bathrooms, lit from underneath, and more of it through the garden beside the levada. We did not buy it and we did not cut it. It was already here, in the old house, before the works.
The sound is the real thing, recorded as you hear it.
Three suites. Six guests. Nobody under eighteen.
December and January are open.
