Marie's Adventures in Lagos Portugal – Shopping in Lagos - When you just need a break from the beach and the heat.

One of the beauties of Historic Lagos Old Town in peak-summer, is that the narrow streets offer an inviting breather from sun with plenty of shade about.

Perhaps providing an opportunity to pop into the local shops and look for that special treat to take your mind back to your Lagos holiday memories.

I stumbled into this little jewelry shop Ourivesaria Quartzo Branco and was quite taken with the unique and creative selection of jewelry.

This was quite a special find and I know that you will be drawn to stop into this this little shop on your next visit. The map will be helpful too.

Marie's Adventures in Lagos Portugal – Precious Moments in Time - Praia Porto do Mõs Beach, Lagos

Our favourite - Praia Porto de Mõs is at the far end of the town. We love it because of its long and wide open expanse, surrounded by stunning cliff views and crashing surf to play in. It's a great spot for body surfing or tossing a Frisbee or football. This long stretch makes Porto do Mõs ideal for a long beach walk. We always find a nice quiet spot to spread out our blanket, read a book or people-watch or just gaze out and the ocean in meditation. It's amazing how the view and the sound of the surf can soothe the soul! If you did not manage to stuff a beach blanket in your suitcase and your preference is to soak in the sun on lounge chairs, you can rent them on the beach. Just look out for a sun-drenched attendant who will happily set you up.

Campi Mar is an ideal beach side restaurant bar at Porto do Mõs, for a meal or snack at any time of day. We like to enjoy a glass of port at sundown while listening to the waves crash to the shore. This is a great spot on both a sunny or rainy day, with both indoor and outdoor seating.

Our favourites lunch menu items at Campimar: Ham and cheese omelette, refreshing salads + a "Fine Glass of Portuguese Red Wine"

Porto do Mõs, is a popular spot for the locals on a Sunday afternoon, so if you would like a seat in the restaurant, get there early!

The other bonus: Porto do Mõs beach is pretty much at street level with just a few steps down to the beach. This is magnificant when you are loaded down with beach gear or have mobility issues.

Flights From - My new favourite flight site - Finally somebody get's it - Thanks to this Swedish company, we can now find direct non-stop flights from our preferred airport.

This will be super valuable for your next holiday in Portugal or anywhere in the world.

If you are like me, non-stop flights take the burden off travel. BUT, it's not easy to find non-stop flights.

I use FlightsFrom to check direct flights from my preferred airport and also from my destination airport. This gives me some wiggle room to adjust my choice of airport if I have this flexibility.

FlightsFrom.com is a useful website for finding airline routes and flight schedules globally. The idea is being able to explore destination opportunities through non-stop flights from a specific airport. We feel fortunate that Lagos has such a nice selection of eateries. Since Lagos is a town where locals live and work you just know that the restaurant experience will be rewarding.

On each and every visit to Lagos, we make multiple stops at our very Favourite Restaurant “Casinha de Petisco” … why? … just so that we can try all of our favourite dishes of course!

The beauty of May in Lagos ... You have to stop by Arc'da Velha in Lagos for tapas, the owner Joao Carmo is a good friend. AND the Rota do Petisco is a great way to explore new places in Lagos. It's a May annual event. Enjoy!!!

Marie's Adventures in Lagos Portugal – Shopping Moments.

Casa Grade – For everything Pottery, Linens, Cork Products and an abundance of other local artesenal crafts.

As I enter, my first thought is "oh, I need more time"!!!

Another one of our favourite places for a fun shopping stop. Give yourself lots of time to browse. This is a must-visit and just a short 15-min drive east from Lagos via the A22 motorway. We love to introduce friends and family to this spacious shop with all its nooks and crannies PLUS a huge outdoor patio with an abundance of pottery.

The staff are friendly and helpful so don’t be shy to ask for help.

They offer an abundance of fish and meat menu choices all visible when you enter and the chefs are eager to show you’re their offerings.

Marie's Adventures in Lagos Portugal - Fond Memories our 2016 Visit

Cervejaria Ferradura is a must stop for us, day or evenings.

Why, you ask? - Well let me share:

-Their Bifanas (Pork in a bun) are the best, especially when we add their home-made piri-piri sauce (spicy).

-This horseshoe shaped bar-style snack-bar, is always bustling with locals and visitors and so always entertaining. We enjoy striking up conversations with whomever we meet.

-Owners Elena and Gilberto make you feel so very welcome. It’s like grabbing a snack in a Portuguese home.

-And, prices are so very affordable.

We thoroughly enjoy stopping by Miguel Martins Sommelier Wine Shop on any occasion for his unique selection of wines at various price ranges AND to learn more about Portuguese wines. Miguel is a Sommelier, loaded with knowledge and always ready to chat wine in the most relaxed fashion.
