Solar dos Marcos is an historic palace that has been reconstructed from an old episcopal residence (18th century), located in the village of Bemposta, where D. Manuel Martins Manso, Bishop of Guarda, was born in and lived in. The Bishop Martins-Manso will have added the chapel to the original building, in honour of the Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception, in the second half of 18th century. The building has been also classified as Excellent Architectural Value by the Portuguese General Directorate of Tourism.
Solar dos Marcos is a quiet residence is situated in the heart of the Douro International Nature Park. It integrates 4 double rooms, 4 twin rooms, 1 quadruple room, featuring an outdoor pool and a living room with fireplace, it also offers a spacious garden as also a private chapel and a kitchen.
Balconies and flat-screen TVs are standard in all rooms at the Solar dos Marcos. Each room is air conditioned and features a modern bathroom with a bathtub and a mini refrigerator. WiFi is free.
Guests can arrange a donkey ride or go on a boat trip along the Douro River. Other activities include bird watching and hiking. Visitors can also take part in the traditional grape harvest.
