🐙 HAJA POLVO - Santa Luzia's Gastronomic Route from 8 until 11 October 🐙
Santa Luzia celebrates the World Octopus Day, which is observed on October 8th!
The Santa Luzia Town Hall organizes a program dedicated to promoting the octopus as a central element of our community's identity, culture, and gastronomy, from October 8th to 11th, 2026.
Recognized as the Capital of the Octopus, our town has a deep historical, cultural, and economic connection to fishing and gastronomy associated with this product. Over the generations, the octopus has become an integral part of our identity, contributing to the economic dynamism and preserving knowledge and traditions that continue to be part of the community's life.
This is where the "Haja Polvo" initiative comes into play, an initiative organized by this Town Hall, which aims to promote the octopus as an identity product, promote local gastronomy, and provide residents and visitors with an experience of discovering the territory through its flavors and traditions.
The initiative proposes a gastronomic route through restaurants and establishments affiliated with Santa Luzia. Each participating establishment will present its own octopus creation, in the form of a tapas or small tasting, specially designed for this occasion.
To participate in the Route, visitors can purchase a passport for 2 euros, available at the Santa Luzia Town Hall and the affiliated establishments. In addition to allowing visitors to follow the Route and visit the different participating establishments, the acquisition of the passport also entitles the holder to participate in the prize draw, which will be held after the end of the initiative.
The tasting dishes will have a price ranging from 5 to 8 euros, including drinks, and each affiliated establishment is free to set the price of their offerings within this range. Each space was invited to present their own interpretation of the octopus, reflecting the creativity and gastronomic identity of each establishment.
The experience aims to transform the celebration into a true route of flavours, inviting participants to explore Santa Luzia, try different offerings, and discover the diversity of local gastronomy, with the additional opportunity to participate in the prize draw associated with the passport.
A PROGRAM TO CELEBRATE SANTA LUZIA 🥳
The celebrations of World Octopus Day go beyond gastronomy, however. The program prepared by the Santa Luzia Town Council also includes an exhibition, a thematic parade, and a tourist route, providing different ways to learn about and celebrate the history, culture, and identity of the town.
Through this program, the community and visitors are expected to be involved in a celebration that crosses gastronomy, culture, tradition, and tourism, reinforcing the importance of the octopus in the identity of Santa Luzia and promoting local commerce and restoration simultaneously.
The "Haja Polvo" thus constitutes an invitation to discover Santa Luzia through its flavours, its stories, and its traditions, valuing a heritage that continues to distinguish the town and affirm its identity as the Capital of the Octopus.
