A Herdade do Telheiro ou Montes do Telheiro, situada na região do Baixo Alentejo a 3kms a Norte da Vila de Odemira, é propriedade da família Caiado desde os finais do sec XIX, até aos dias de hoje. Considerada uma das maiores Herdades corticeiras, agrícola e produtora de telha até ao 25 de Abril de 1974, data que foi ocupada por a "Cooperativa Agrícola Vitoria do Povo" durante 5 anos, transforman
do a casa principal "Monte do Telheiro", na sua sede. Devido a uma má gestão de todas as infraestruturas e montado, a herdade entrou em decadência e finalmente foi entregue aos proprietários 5 anos depois, completamente despida e ao abandono. Na impossibilidade de reconstruir a partir do zero,tanto a parte agrícola como a pecuária só nos anos 90 começou pouco a pouco a sua recuperação. Começando pela casa principal e montado, até á recuperação das casas abandonadas por os antigos trabalhadores rurais "pre1974" que deram origens a um EcoTurismo de Charme cheio de historia. Com os seus 800 ha, o Telheiro, como é conhecido por aqui, estende-se por montes e vales numa diversidade de paisagens magnificas e fauna única na Europa. A 13kms da Costa Vicentina junto ao Parque Natural SW,oferece uma diversidade de opções para os hóspedes passarem o seu tempo, lendo, descansando ou optando por desportos mais ou menos radicais como canoagem no rio Mira, desportos motorizados, passeios pedestres, BTT, slide rappell ou simplesmente desfrutando da diversidade gastronómica, artesanato e costumes num ambiente rural único com praias magnificas. The Telheiro Estate, situated in the Lower Alentejo region, and a mere 3 kms from Odemira town centre, has belonged to the Caiado family since the 19th century. Considered one of the largest cork, agriculture, and tile production Estates until the Portuguese Revolution on April 25th 1974, it was occupied by the "Cooperativa Agrícola Vitoria do Povo" (Peoples' Victory Agricultural Cooperative) for 5 years, transforming the Estate's main house "Monte do Telheiro", into their head office. Due to the miss-management of the Estate's entire infrastructure and land's production, the Estate collapsed and was finally returned to its owners following these 5 years of downfall, left in an abandoned and stripped state. Beginning with the main house and the land's production, up until the rebuilding of the abandoned rural houses by old "pre-1974" local farmers, are the foundations of the Caiado family-run Eco-Tourism Estate filled with it's rich history. With over 800 ha, "o Telheiro", as it is locally known, spreads over hills and valleys in a magnificent array of views and fauna unique already in Europe. 13kms from the Vicentine Coast, next to the SW Natural Park, it offers diverse options for its guests to enjoy their time; reading, resting or opting for more or less radical sports like canooing in the Mira River, motorized sports, walks, off-road biking, slide rappell or simply enjoying the region's diverse gastronomy, regional crafts and customs in an unique rural environment, adjacent breath-taking beaches.
