RABIGATO, quem é? O que faz? O que representa? Que momentos pode criar?
É uma casta autóctone do Douro, particularmente associada ao Douro Superior. Atualmente é mesmo a casta branca com maior área plantada na região, com cerca de 1.618 ha, 3,8% do encepamento do Douro em 2023.
Tem cachos médios e bagos pequenos, verde-amarelados. O grande trunfo não está tanto na exuberância aromática, mas sobretudo na boca.
🥂 O perfil do vinho:
A Rabigato costuma dar vinhos com:
* Acidez elevada e muito firme
* Grande sensação de frescura
* Estrutura e alguma tensão
* Perfil mineral
* Cítricos — lima, limão, toranja
* Flores brancas, sobretudo flor de laranjeira e acácia
* Algumas expressões podem apresentar notas vegetais
* Final seco, comprido e persistente
E há uma característica interessante: a Rabigato pode ser muito mais interessante na boca do que no nariz.
Um exemplo do nosso monocasta , com uma prova marcada por acidez vibrante, textura cremosa e persistência.
Onde achamos que deve estar?
A Rabigato não é simplesmente uma casta para zonas frescas. No Douro, pode ser uma excelente ferramenta para combater o problema do calor e da perda de acidez.
Temos o nosso exemplo para a base do nosso MÃOS RESERVA BRANCO, baixa altitude, mais complexo mas com uma frescura impressionante!!!
Novamente o nosso monocasta, em zonas de maior altitude, consegue manter uma acidez muito interessante enquanto ganha maturação e concentração.

RABIGATO — Who is it? What does it bring? What does it represent? And what moments can it create?
Rabigato is an indigenous grape variety of the Douro, particularly associated with the Douro Superior. Today, it is the most widely planted white grape variety in the region, covering around 1,618 hectares and representing 3.8% of the Douro vineyard area in 2023.
It produces medium-sized bunches with small, greenish-yellow berries. Its true strength is not necessarily aromatic exuberance, but what happens on the palate.

Rabigato can deliver w**es defined by:
• High, firm acidity
• Remarkable freshness
• Structure and tension
• A distinctive mineral character
• Citrus notes — lime, lemon and grapefruit
• White flowers, particularly orange blossom and acacia
• Subtle vegetal nuances in some expressions
• A dry, long and persistent finish
But there is something particularly fascinating about Rabigato:
It can reveal far more on the palate than on the nose.
Our own single-varietal Rabigato is a great example — vibrant acidity, a creamy texture and remarkable persistence, with a freshness that keeps unfolding in the glass.
Where does Rabigato belong?
We believe Rabigato should not simply be seen as a grape for cooler sites.
In the Douro, it can be an extraordinary tool for balancing the effects of heat and preserving natural acidity.
Our own vineyards are a good example.
The Rabigato that forms part of the blend for our MÃOS RESERVA BRANCO comes from lower-altitude vineyards, bringing complexity, depth and concentration while still maintaining an impressive sense of freshness.
And then there is our single-varietal Rabigato from higher-altitude vineyards, where the variety is able to retain remarkable acidity while developing maturity, concentration and precision.
