A SMALL FAMILY OWNED VINEYARD AND HOTEL SITUATED IN NORTHERN PORTUGAL ON THE RIVER DOURO, PRODUCING HIGH QUALITY PORTS, WINES AND OLIVE OIL.

Quinta de la Rosa, situated 1 km from the village of Pinhão, is a working vineyard and winery and offers guests the opportunity to enjoy the relaxing atmosphere of the Quinta, wander into the village or visit further afield by car or train. Guests have been staying at the Quinta for over twenty years and in 2012 a substantial redevelopment took place of the Winery and Accommodation. Guests can now

choose between staying in the original Quinta house, soaking up the atmosphere and eccentricity of the house’s 100 year history or in the Quinta’s specifically designed vineyard accommodation. All 14 rooms have views of the Douro and guests have the use of the swimming pool. In addition there are two villas, Lamelas (sleeps 6) and Amarela (sleeps 10 and is close to La Rosa) which offer alternative accommodation for larger parties or weekly rentals. For those unable to stay, we provide lunches and dinners with a tour and tasting by prior arrangement.

Drum roll please 🥁🥁

Introducing our new La Rosa Leve. A 11% red.

Light in style, with vibrant red fruit on the nose. Perfect when chilled on a summer’s day or alongside a meaty fish. Incredibly drinkable.

And the label? Based off a sketch we found in the visitors’ book from 1939. During the time of treading we used to have traditional bands play songs, sing and dance. The beat of the drum would keep the tempo of the stomping.

Get yourself a bottle, play some music and have a good time.

Leve no estilo, com frutos vermelhos vibrantes no nariz. Perfeito para beber fresco num dia de verão ou acompanhado de um peixe encorpado. Muito fácil de beber.

E o rótulo? Baseado num esboço que encontrámos no livro de visitas de 1939. Na época da pisa, tínhamos bandas tradicionais a tocar, cantar e dançar. O ritmo do tambor marcava o tempo dos passos.

Happy Mother’s Day from Portugal!

Today we’re raising a glass to a very special woman — Claire Bergqvist, the mother of La Rosa.

In 1906, Claire was gifted this Quinta as a christening present (talk about a memorable gift!). She went on to make it her home and her life, raising her beloved son Tim here as a single mother, all while running the estate and selling grapes to Sandeman across the river.

Claire was absolutely larger than life, generous, extravagant, and utterly irresistible. She threw open the doors of La Rosa to friends and strangers alike, always making sure there was a place at the table for everyone.

We’ve tried our very best not to lose that spirit.

Feliz Dia da Mãe de Portugal!

Hoje levantamos um copo em homenagem a uma mulher muito especial — Claire Bergqvist, a mãe de La Rosa.

Em 1906, a Claire recebeu esta Quinta como presente de baptismo (que presente memorável!). Tornou-a na sua casa e na sua vida, criando aqui o seu amado filho Tim como mãe solteira, enquanto geria a propriedade e vendia uvas à Sandeman do outro lado do rio.

A Claire era absolutamente maior do que a vida, generosa, extravagante e irresistível. Abriu as portas de La Rosa an amigos e desconhecidos, garantindo sempre que havia um lugar à mesa para todos.

Temos feito o nosso melhor para não perder esse espírito.

It’s Father’s Day in Portugal. A day to remember my father, Tim.

I think of you every day. Your charm, generosity, quiet wisdom and deep love for the Douro.

I catch myself thinking, “what would you have done?” It’s those thoughts that have guided us forward and helped La Rosa grow into what it is today.

With the sun finally back out, we’re thinking about all the great activities we can start enjoying again at La Rosa. Time to explore the vineyards once more — this time by electric bike.

Com o sol finalmente de volta, já estamos a pensar em todas as excelentes atividades que podemos voltar a desfrutar na La Rosa. Está na hora de explorar novamente as vinhas — desta vez de bicicleta elétrica.
