🇵🇹 Penina: seis décadas de golfe e legado ⛳

De 19 a 22 de outubro, o Penina Hotel & Golf Resort esteve na IGTM – International Golf Travel Market, no Palais des Festivals, em Cannes, um encontro de referência para os profissionais do turismo de golfe.

Há 60 anos, o Penina faz parte do percurso do golfe no Algarve, com um legado associado a Sir Henry Cotton e a um campo que marcou gerações de jogadores. Estar presente neste evento internacional é também uma forma de celebrar esse percurso e de continuar a projetar o nome do Penina junto da comunidade mundial do golfe.

Seis décadas depois, o nosso compromisso com este desporto continua.

🇬🇧 Penina: six decades of golf and legacy ⛳

From 19 to 22 October, Penina Hotel & Golf Resort attended IGTM – International Golf Travel Market, at the Palais des Festivals in Cannes, a key gathering for golf tourism professionals.

For 60 years, Penina has been part of the Algarve’s golfing journey, with a legacy shaped by Sir Henry Cotton and a course that has welcomed generations of players. Taking part in this international event is an opportunity to celebrate that heritage and continue to share the Penina name with the global golf community.
Six decades on, our commitment to the game remains strong.

Algumas histórias merecem ser saboreadas.

O Paul McCartney, cocktail de assinatura do Bar Monchique, presta homenagem a um episódio curioso da história do Algarve. No final de 1968, Paul McCartney esteve de férias na região com Linda McCartney e escreveu a canção Penina, que viria a ficar ligada ao nome do resort.

Inspirado por esta história, o cocktail combina a vodka russa Moskovskaya com Campari italiano, equilibrando as notas amargas com a doçura da laranja algarvia e um toque de bitter de citrinos artesanal.

Uma criação com carácter, raízes locais e uma história para descobrir — no Bar Monchique, no Hotel Penina & Golf Resort.

The Paul McCartney, the signature cocktail at Monchique Bar, pays tribute to a fascinating chapter in the Algarve’s history. In late 1968, Paul McCartney holidayed in the region with Linda McCartney and wrote the song Penina, which would become part of the resort’s story.

Inspired by this connection, the cocktail combines Russian Moskovskaya vodka with Italian Campari, balancing bitter notes with the sweetness of Algarve orange and a touch of homemade citrus bitters.

Em 1966, Sir Henry Cotton deu vida a uma visão que viria a transformar o panorama do golfe no Algarve.

O Sir Henry Cotton Championship Course, no Hotel Penina & Golf Resort, foi o primeiro campo de 18 buracos construído na região, tornando-se um marco no desenvolvimento do Algarve como destino internacional de golfe.

Desenhado pelo tricampeão do Open Championship, o campo transformou a paisagem com milhares de árvores e arbustos, criando um percurso de carácter único, onde a natureza e o desafio se encontram.

Ao longo da sua história, recebeu dez edições do Portuguese Open, consolidando o seu lugar entre os campos mais emblemáticos de Portugal.

Hoje, o legado de Sir Henry Cotton continua vivo em cada fairway, em cada desafio e em cada partida.

In 1966, Sir Henry Cotton brought to life a vision that would transform the golfing landscape of the Algarve.

The Sir Henry Cotton Championship Course at Penina Hotel & Golf Resort was the first 18-hole course built in the region, becoming a landmark in the Algarve’s development as an international golf destination.

Designed by the three-time Open Championship winner, the course transformed the landscape with thousands of trees and shrubs, creating a distinctive layout where nature and challenge come together.

Throughout its history, it has hosted the Portuguese Open on ten occasions, securing its place among Portugal’s most iconic golf courses.
