COME TO VISIT PORTO AND ENJOY SÃO JOÃO CELEBRATIONS
In São João's night, the party takes place all over the city and the streets are filled with people. Among toasts and sardine barbecues, there are rituals that are not lost, such as watching the fireworks in Ribeira. This year will be almost 20 minutes display and more than 150 thousand pyrotechnics firing from the Luiz I bridge and several platforms on the river Douro.
And because without music there would be no São João, there will be more than ten stages spread throughout the city, with concerts for various music tastes, all with free access.
But the party does not end at dawn. As usual, after the revelry, the aftermath is with classical music on the afternoon of the municipal holiday of June 24th. Starting at 4 pm, the “Banda Sinfónica Portuguesa” returns to the largest room of the city for the São João Concert.
At the same time also begins the traditional “rabelo” boat regatta, on the Douro river. Organised by “Confraria do Vinho do Porto”, the competition will celebrate its 36th edition this year, bringing together 18 boats on a route from Cabedelo to the Luiz I bridge.
