How to eat Sardines 101

Fun fact: Sardines are not common in the Azores (why not?) but these local sardines were a rare find at today's Santana Market.

Normally eaten with pão de milho (cornbread) we instead made homemade bolo de sertã, like a soft corn tortilla.

1) place the sardine on the bread (it will soak up the juices as you eat)

2) eat the top part (above the middle bone) from below the head to the tail.

3) flip it over and do the same thing on the other side! Give bones to your furry friends (if they're used to eating them).

Enjoy with vinho cheiro!

Sights and sounds from our visit to the Feira Quinhentista (or Medieval Festival).

Our guests enjoyed hearing about it from our receptionist and getting insider tips on all the happenings on our island.

The best part? We're centrally located, equally close to the cities of Ribeira Grande and Ponta Delgada plus all the must see places on the island are within a 15-20 min drive.

Festival season runs through early October and we just had a few late September dates open up.
