Hello all! Some of you will already know that I have taken leave of my wits. In 2012 I cycled from Essex to central Scotland and raised a couple of thousand quid for charity. This one is even crazier... I'm going to try cycling from my place in Portugal back to my place in the UK, maybe via a couple of detours. It's 2,500 kilometres more or less, depending on whether I do the full route as in the image or (if I am delayed) miss out the detours. It will be unsupported except by the local bars and supermarkets, wild camping in my hammock (so I may have some entertaining conversations with the authorities, even more so as my Portuguese is nowhere near perfect, Spanish very weak and French mostly forgotten since school). But someone has to do it, and the charities need your money and my sweat. I'm not well-prepared, mentally or physically, and the first two days are particularly likely to kill me going up to Guarda... in fact I have identified about 25 threats ranging from ticks and javali/wolves in the forests to being run over by a truck. But hopefully if I am careful I will get through it and not let anyone down. So, please give as much as you can. I have a basket of worthy causes... and I am aiming for 5 grand as it's a hell of a big task, though I know that's a big ask. I hope to post updates on Facebook and possibly also Twitter as I go, beginning on 1st May or so, and hopefully I will get back at the latest by mid June.
