Medieval Days, Castro Marim – 26th to 30th August

The Castro Marim Medieval Days are back with jousting tournaments, markets, banquets, live entertainment, and historical re-enactments, with the town's historic centre and castle once again becoming the stage for one of the Algarve's most popular cultural events. This year marks the 27th edition!

Visitors can expect bustling medieval markets, craftsmen demonstrating centuries-old trades, street theatre, musicians, falconry displays, fire performers, and dozens of entertainment groups from Portugal and abroad. The town's imposing castle becomes the heart of the festival, hosting artisan workshops, exhibitions, and one of the event's biggest attractions: daily jousting tournaments on horseback, organised by Portugal's GNR police.

A true trip back in time — definitely worth a visit if you're staying in the Algarve during this period! Castro Marim is about a 45-minute drive from the quinta.

Straight from our garden to your breakfast table (all season round!)

Right now, our figs are ripening beautifully at Quinta das Piteiras, and while we're enjoying them fresh at breakfast, and Martha making jams; we're also drying a batch the traditional Algarvian way — laid out in the sun to slowly concentrate all that natural sweetness.

It's a simple, age-old method here in the Algarve, and one we love keeping alive at the quinta. Comes autumn, these little sun-dried treasures will still be gracing our breakfast table, a little taste of summer saved for later!

It's that time of year again! For five nights, the best of Algarve gastronomy joins the best of Portuguese live music at the Sardine Festival in Portimão, along the riverside Zona Ribeirinha.

This morning's breakfast table told its own little story — waffles baked fresh and warm, topped with plum sauce made just hours before, still holding the last of the summer fruit. Alongside, a puff pastry filled with egg, ham, and cheese, golden and flaky from the oven. Slices of fresh melon, a pastel de nata still warm to the touch, and all the usual morning favourites laid out under the Algarve sun.
Some mornings just deserve to be savoured slowly.
