The Wilderness Station was founded in 1960 and remains on its original site, 32 kilometres north of Älvdalen. The initiative was taken by Ove Zacheusson, one of Älvdalen’s former tourist managers. Today, the site is managed by Stephan and Lena Knagg and Älvdalen’s Tourist Association.
