🇸🇪 Holiday in beautiful Tornedalen Swedish Lapland – closer than you think!

Many people think the far north of Sweden is very far away – but in reality, getting here is easy.

✈️ There are direct flights to Luleå (Sweden) or Rovaniemi (Finland) in winter. From there, it’s just a relaxed drive to Hedenäset, a small village along the Torne River in Tornedalen, right on the border with Finland.

🚗 If you travel north by car: simply follow the E4 north and turn off at Kalix onto road 398 towards Hedenäset.

📍 My small B&B (former post office) is only 750 km from the North Cape – perfect for anyone planning a trip to the far north.

🏡 The former post office now offers an apartment with a queen-size bed and a sofa bed. It accommodates up to 4 adults or a family with 3 children and has views of the garden and the Torne River. A small kitchenette is available. On request, I prepare breakfast, lunch, or dinner. The shower is located in the basement and is for private use, next to the sauna.

📅 I am open all year round – for a one-night stopover, a multi-day stay, or complete packages.

💰 Prices 2026
SEK 800 / €80 per night including breakfast for 2 persons
June, July and August: SEK 900 / €90 per night including breakfast for 2 persons
Each additional person: SEK 100 / €10 for breakfast

Travelers with camper, campervan, or rooftop tent are also welcome. There is space in my garden to stay overnight. Self-sufficient only.

🌍 Perfect for anyone who wants to experience the real Swedish Lapland – without mass tourism.

Joehoe!!!!! 🎉
Another Traveller Review Award.
Behind every review is a story.
An encounter, time spent in nature, or simply the space and quiet to do absolutely nothing.
Grateful to everyone who stayed here and took the time to leave something behind — in words, memories, or both.
A lovely confirmation of what has been growing here, in Swedish Lapland, with care and attention for years.

Yesterday was already the last day with my Dutch guests. Because they had a late afternoon flight, we started the day slowly with a relaxed breakfast. Then we got into the car and headed towards Rovaniemi. What they had seen the week before only in the dark now appeared completely different in daylight, with the sun shining — a beautiful new perspective.

In Rovaniemi we of course stopped by Santa Claus Village. They didn’t necessarily need to see Santa himself, but standing on the Arctic Circle — both outside and inside — was definitely on their list 🙂

After a delicious warm lunch, I dropped them off at the airport, and another Winter Wonder Week came to an end.

When I arrived back home later, there was still a lovely surprise waiting for me: a small gift as a thank-you for the beautiful week, and a heartfelt message in my guest book. One of those moments when you pause and think: this is why I do what I do ✨

And Olle? He already misses the guests 😉🐾

Day 7.
Today no forest, but the Tornio River. A wide white expanse of snow and ice ❄️
Sweden under one ski, Finland under the other. Two countries, two time zones 🌍 — without it ever really mattering along the way.

The weather works with us. Sun, clear blue skies, deep snow ☀️
We set our own track, nothing to follow but the terrain ahead. Moving forward, finding a rhythm, covering distance.

Olle is with us 🐾
Constantly in motion, running, stopping, moving on again. He belongs here just as much as the skis and the snow.

We stop for lunch over an open fire 🔥 and then continue.

A day where everything comes together.

Day 6 with my Dutch guests ❄️

Today we enjoyed a wonderful combination day. In the morning, Peter guided the snowmobile tour through the winter landscape. Between the two activities, we enjoyed a warm lunch with reindeer goulash — a perfect moment to warm up.

After that, it was time for dog sledding. Helene’s dogs ran full of energy through the snowy surroundings. Under her guidance, the guests were able to take turns mushing and driving the dog sled themselves. Peter rode ahead on the snowmobile to assist.

Altogether, it was a very successful day at Helenes Sleddogs in Storträsk. At the end of the day, we returned tired but happy, with wonderful memories of a special winter day.

Day 4 was a free day – a moment to relax and let everything sink in 🤍
Today, day 5, was all about the reindeer 🦌❄️

This morning we visited a twin Sami herder 🌲. We helped feed the reindeer 🦌 and learned how they are cared for, as well as more about Sami life, past and present 🤍. It was special to hear firsthand how deep the connection between people and reindeer truly is.

In the afternoon we crossed the border into Finland 🇫🇮. There, we glided through the forest 🌲 in a reindeer-drawn sleigh 🛷🦌, just as people used to travel from A to B in earlier times. Inside a warm tipi 🔥, we learned more about those days while enjoying a cup of hot berry juice 🫐. Afterwards, we were able to give the reindeer some snacks here as well 🦌🤍 – a beautiful way to end the experience ✨

All in all, another wonderful day 🤍. Now our guests are enjoying a relaxing zen evening in the sauna in the basement ♨️✨

“Yesterday was day 3, officially a free morning in the programme. Time to do your own thing, take it slow or simply enjoy the silence. ❄️

But because one of my guests is a former colleague of mine, I really wanted to show them why I chose my new life in Swedish Lapland almost four years ago.

We crossed the border into Finland 🇫🇮, went for a winter walk on Aavasaksa and enjoyed a simple outdoor lunch in a laavu 🔥. And the oohs and aahs, and stopping every few metres for yet another photo 📸, that’s exactly what makes it all worth it.

No tourist crowds, just space, peace and endless views. A spontaneous little trip that perfectly shows what makes this place so special. 🏔️

Day 2 with my Dutch guests ❄️
Today we headed into the forest for a backcountry ski tour. It was unfortunately too cold for an outdoor lunch, and for that reason Olle couldn’t join us either.

That didn’t take anything away from the experience. The forest showed itself at its very best: thick layers of snow on the trees, a silence that felt almost tangible, and that special winter light filtering through the woods. As we moved quietly through the landscape, I kept hearing sincere oohs, wows and aaahs — spontaneous, genuine and full of wonder.

This is exactly why I love sharing this place. Not the distance, not the effort, but being in nature, the stillness and the moment. 🤍
