Today, Laisan looks like totally free of ice. The water level has raised at least 50 cm since the beginning of the ice breaking early May, which forced me to speed up the quick fixing of the pontoon of Laisvallby’s harbor, before the 1-2 meters annual flooding.

Yesterday morning, probably due to strong westerly winds, most of the ice cover on Stora Laisan had vanished, even though there are few large ice packs floating, while up and downstream, the ice cover looks like less impacted.

Ice breaking is almost 10 day’s earlier than usually, but it has been few times 10 days later : in 1942, horses could walk upon the ice of Stora Laisan at midsummer.

This shows the high natural variability of weather conditions from year to year.

Still good conditions of ice cover on Laisan river with probably 30-40 cm thickness, while snow cover on forest tracks have melted off.
Wearing helmet is mandatory for riding snow scooter ⛑️
