A misty morning in Nederhögen.

Sometimes you don't have to go very far to find something beautiful.

This morning, the Vildmarkscenter almost disappeared into the fog. And on a little walk around our grounds, everything seemed to be covered in tiny drops of water.

Spiderwebs suddenly became little works of art, the lingonberries added some colour to the grey morning, and even the smallest details seemed worth stopping for.

Autumn is slowly finding its way to Jämtland. 🍂

The mornings are getting cooler, the colours are beginning to change and the forest has that unmistakable feeling that another season is on its way.

No spectacular destination today. No long hike.

Just a quiet morning walk right outside our door. ❤️

Sometimes that's all you need.

A different little glimpse into life in Jämtland today. ❤️

A Dodge, a trailer full of belongings and a rainy day in Jämtland… not exactly one of our usual Vildmarkscenter posts. 😉

But this week, schools started again and it reminded us of something our international guests are often surprised by: the distances of everyday life in rural Sweden.

Our three children are a perfect example.

Our 16-year-old son has started upper secondary school more than 100 km from home. Daily travelling simply isn't realistic, so he now has his own little apartment near school and comes home at weekends.

A big new adventure for him… and quite a step for mum and dad too. ❤️

Our 20-year-old son is starting his final year of education more than 200 km from home, working towards his future as a professional truck driver. 🚛

And our 14-year-old daughter?

Her school is only about 60 km from home, so she travels back and forth every day. 😄

Perhaps that says it all:

60 km away is the child who goes to school “close to home”.

Living in Jämtland means space. Lots of it. 🌲

Endless forests, quiet roads, lakes and small communities make this part of Sweden incredibly beautiful. But all that space also shapes everyday life.

Three children. Three schools. Three very different journeys.

And for us as parents? A little more driving, a little more worrying 😉 and a lot of learning to let them find their own way. ❤️

Well… we had something completely different planned for today. 😄

But then we received this from a wildlife camera… 👀

A beautiful moose and her two calves stopped by — and apparently decided to pose right in front of the camera. 🫎❤️

Living in Jämtland means that sometimes the best content isn't planned at all.

It simply walks into the frame. 🌲

Just another evening in the wilderness around Nederhögen.

One of the magical things about Jämtland? You never know who you might meet along the way… 🦌🌲

Summer or winter, seeing reindeer in the landscape around us never gets old.

Sometimes you spot them between the trees, sometimes they're quietly grazing beside the road… and every now and then, they simply decide that the road belongs to them. 😊

These are some of the reindeer encounters we've been lucky enough to capture around our part of Jämtland.

For us, they are part of life here. But we still stop, watch and enjoy the moment every single time. ❤️

And for many of our international guests, seeing a reindeer for the first time becomes one of those special Swedish memories they take home with them.

This is Jämtland. Wild, peaceful and full of unexpected encounters. 🌲🦌

✨ Three years of friendship, wonderful memories & incredible achievements 🐾

Some guests become so much more than guests.

This weekend, we had the pleasure of welcoming Team Pettson for the third year in a row during the dog show weekend. Over the years, it has been a joy to watch not only their amazing dogs achieve incredible success, but also to build a friendship that means a lot to us.
