The last ones to leave

We really enjoyed ‘hosting’ many swallows around our old house this summer. It’s always a joy when they arrive early June and start building their nests right under the roof.

The common swift is particularly special to us since it produces our ultimate summer sound. They fly in groups around the house and the neighborhood just before sunset and again at dawn, catching plenty of mosquitoesfor their chicks.

We are always sad to see them leave around the second week of August.
Then they will spend ten! months straight in the air before returning to us next summer to nestle again.

Fortunately, the last ones standing are still with us for a few days. These are the barn swallows; they nest just by our back door, and the chicks are almost fully grown and ready to fledge.

We love these birds and will definitely miss all of them!

Packrafting along the Mangslidälven and Ljusnan

A new adventure has been started in our surroundings by Theo this week. He arrived late all the way from 🇩🇪 by bus with a lot of stuff and stayed over at our B&B. The day after he prepared and packed for a real outdoor adventure. He started his packrafting trip roughly 20 km north from our place along the river Mangälven.

A packraft is a small, ultra-lightweight inflatable boat that weighs between 4 and 6 kilograms. It packs down small enough to fit inside a standard backpack, allowing outdoor adventurers to combine hiking with paddling on remote lakes, streams and rivers.

Theo started his trip on Monday night and today he reached THE LODGE Torsby. After a stop for lunch he continues now along the Ljusnan down to Torsby.

It was great hosting Theo as well as learning a lot about this outdoor activity.

Cycling all way to THE LODGE Torsby

Our friends Karen and Jaap arrived at THE LODGE Torsby earlier this week. They have been cycling all the way from their home town in the Netherlands to Torsby, Sweden. It was always Jaap’s wish to visit our place by bicycle one day. They have been cycling 10 days all together through 🇾🇪🇩🇪🇸🇪. The first 5 five days from Linschoten 🇾🇪 to Kiel 🇩🇪, where they took the ferry to Göteborg🇸🇪. After a good day’s rest and sightseeing Göteborg they continued cycling 5 more days towards their final destination at THE LODGE Torsby. They landed on a total of 988 km with an average distance of 100 km per day. Marc and Joanne accompanied them during their last stretch towards Vägsjöfors. Excellent job done and great to host them for 5 days.

Enjoying late summer on the water!

Our lake Nedre Brocken is perfect for numerous water sports, like the common ‘Swedish’ one’s: rowing 🚣🏿 , canoeing 🛶 and kayaking. But as the wind blows, like today, it’s also wonderful for windsurfing 😎.
