This week marks 50 years since one of Sweden’s most beloved troublemakers first came to life—Emil i Lönneberga. 💫
Created by the legendary Astrid Lindgren, Emil wasn’t the perfect child. He was mischievous and wild and always seemed to end up in trouble—usually locked in the woodshed carving little wooden figures as punishment. But behind all the mischief was a boy with a big heart, endless curiosity, and a spirit that captured children’s imaginations all over the world.
From 1963 to 1997, Astrid Lindgren gave us 12 wonderful books about Emil’s adventures. Those stories have since been translated into 52 languages and have reached the hands and hearts of more than 30 million readers worldwide. 🌍📚 Not bad for a farm boy from Lönneberga!
For me, Emil is more than just a character — he represents the joy of childhood, the freedom of summer days, and the reminder that even a little mischief can make life brighter.
So here’s to Emil, turning 50 this Thursday — still as lively, cheeky, and unforgettable as the day he was first written. 💙🇸🇪
