Kajža.
The smallest house at Vila Kobdilj and the first to be renovated.

We kept the old stone walls and timber. We added steel, glass and oak. We never liked the idea of new things pretending to be old. When you look at the space, you can read it with ease.

Everything is what it is, and it’s there for a reason.

Old walls. New life.

One of the questions our guests ask us most often is: Where should we eat?

So here it is. Not a “best of” list, not a restaurant guide — simply five places we genuinely love and keep coming back to.

From fine dining to pizza. These are our favourites.

It’s where we go when we want to treat ourselves.
Because they get everything right. Every single time.

Domačija Šajna. Domačija Šajna - Šepulje
For traditional Karst food, this is one of our favourites. Honest local flavours, recipes rooted in the region, and a beautiful old Karst homestead that feels exactly as it should.

Come hungry.

Ukmar, Dutovlje. Gostilna Ukmar
Sometimes we don’t need an experience. We’re simply hungry and want good, honest food, a glass of local wine and no surprises.

Ukmar is one of those places we keep coming back to. Relaxed, reliable and unmistakably Karst.

And never leave without trying the apple strudel.

Gostilna Brin, just across the Italian border. The Karst has never cared much for borders — and neither has its cuisine.

Brin takes the flavours and ingredients of this shared landscape and turns them into something refined, contemporary and distinctly their own.

Worth crossing a border for.

Truth be told, this is probably where we end up most often.

Proper Neapolitan-style pizza, a wood-fired oven, great ingredients — and exactly the kind of place you want nearby when the only plan for the evening is pizza.

Sometimes, nothing beats a really good pizza.

Ko sva pred leti prvič stopila v prazne prostore stare kraške domačije, še nisva vedela, kako bo videti Vila Kobdilj 1835.

Vedela pa sva nekaj drugega.

Da ne želiva ustvariti še ene turistične nastanitve.

Želela sva ustvariti kraj, kjer bi si tudi sama želela preživeti nekaj dni.

Zato so nastajale velike sobe. Zato so pod nogami tople terakotne ploščice. Zato v kuhinji ponovno gori ogenj v starem kamnitem ognjišču. In zato je toliko drobnih detajlov, ki jih marsikdo opazi šele drugi dan.

Vsaka odločitev je izhajala iz istega vprašanja:

“Bi to razveselilo naju?”

Danes po teh prostorih hodijo naši gostje. Zajtrkujejo pod trto, berejo knjige na dvorišču in zvečer posedajo ob ognju.

In vsakič znova dobiva občutek, da sva ustvarila točno tak prostor, o kakršnem sva sanjala.
