With heavy hearts, we share the passing of a cherished member of the Stafford Lodge family. As a family-owned and operated lodge, our team is deeply connected, and yesterday, we lost someone very dear to us. Kadiatu Jalloh, beloved wife of our manager, Sulaiman Jalloh, transitioned peacefully. We ask that you keep Sulaiman and our entire Stafford Lodge family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Today at Stafford Lodge and every Friday in Sierra Leone, we’re honoring that tradition. Please take a look at the beautiful Africana we’re wearing today.

Our Story

Stafford Lodge is family owned and ran. In December 2004, ground was broken on the Stafford Lodge and the doors did not open until February 14, 2016. Stafford, the owner of Stafford Lodge is a native of Sierra Leone he was born and raised in Makeni. After the death of his beloved grandmother Alice, Stafford returned to Sierra Leone and took a room at a hotel in downtown Freetown. The hotel was inexpensive and did not have any of the amenities a traveler would expect when staying in a hotel. But he found comfort in having a private room while visiting. Stafford felt he could offer the same inexpensive rate but include many of the must have amenities a traveler is looking for in a hotel. With the help from his trusted brother Sulaiman (Sullay), they began to work on building the Stafford Lodge. Stafford returned to the States to secure funding and Sullay was responsible for the day to day operations. This arrangement was grueling on the two brothers requiring tremendous sacrifice regarding money and missing out onquality time with their families. The doors finally opened eight years later. The brothers attempted to operate with the same initial arrangement Stafford would work and fund the business and Sullay would oversee the day to day operations. The task became overwhelming and they both knew something had to give. Stafford attempted to find managers living in Freetown that could assist Sullay but with every promising manager the business was not progressing in the right direction. Stafford was sending more money and Sullay found himself living at the lodge with both brothers barely seeing their families. Stafford finally heard his brothers cries for help and spoke to his wife, Dori about relocating to Freetown. Dori was very hesitant she had never lived in another country and knew she would miss her older children, parents, brother and friends. She couldn’t imagine how their young daughter would adjust to a new culture, language and school. But Dori could see how hard Stafford worked to fund the project and saw quality time with family dwindling and knew the huge responsibility her brother in law was enduring. After much thought and prayer, she agreed and created a plan for their transition. Stafford, Dori and Destiny arrived in Freetown September 2019, devoted to carrying out Stafford’s initial dream to provide an inexpensive hotel experience for travelers but with all the amenities of a more expensive hotel providing the necessities and comfort of home with an intimate experience. The work is still challenging but in a new way both brothers are now working side by side together to conquer any challenges that may lay ahead and always thinking of the customers comfortability.
