This is THE PLAN for Senegal, 2050:

'Under the new plan, the government aims to increase access to electricity to 100% from 84% and make Senegal energy self-sufficient.'

FINALLY I'M SEEING THE TRUTH ABOUT ELECTRICITY COVERAGE IN SENEGAL! Every single time I look (and get mad!) about these white journalists saying that 'less than 50% of the people have electracy' it's such a LIE and I knew it but couldn't prove it!

I know what I see. We have so much solar power here in villages and in the city that there's no way HALF the people don't have electricity.

The agenda was launched seven months after President Bassirou Diomaye Faye clinched a landslide election victory on a promise to improve livelihoods in the West African nation

Senegalese Peeps: Contact Matal Travel for your tickets and transportation needs! Follow in the footsteps of Dr Cheik Anta Diop and see what he saw in Egypt!

I spent some time traveling solo through the Middle East this summer and Egypt was hands down my favorite country. There are so many monuments, there is so much history and beauty in one place, and the people are generally warm and I felt comfortable and safe there. Just wanted to put a bug in your ear: DO NOT GO TO EGYPT WITHOUT a day trip to Aswan to visit the Nubians or spending a few days in Nubia. Visiting the Nubians and learning about Nubian culture was hands down THE BEST part of my trip.

I would like to propose that anyone going to Egypt should consider this itinerary:

2 days in Cairo
Day one: Pyramids, Egyptian Museum,
Day two: Khan el-Khalili market and Nile River Cruise
3 days in Luxor: I used Airbnb experiences and paid $40usd to visit 3 temples per day. It was about 6 hours and the tour was very informative and my guide took pictures of me.

A flight to Aswan from Cairo is $40 one way on Egypt air and takes an hour. Egypt air was a great airline.

5 nights in Aswan, Egypt with Nubians:

I spent 5 nights in a lovely Nubian guesthouse overlooking the Nile River in Aswan, Egypt. The Nubians were so excited to see me and were very warm and welcoming. I stayed at Wanos Kato guesthouse which is 100% Nubian owned and feels like a PALACE; I had a room with AC and a balcony and it was $30USD/night. Yes the weather was like 110-115F, but we did our activities early in the morning or in the afternoon. As a black woman solo traveling through various Middle Eastern countries and experiencing a level of racism and sexism, visiting Nubia was a breath of fresh air...

I had the opportunity to visit two Nubian weddings, spent time with Nubian families, visited the Nubian Museum, visited various Nubian islands/villages, cruised the Nile River, and more. Just wanted to put a bug in your ear: DO NOT GO TO EGYPT without a day trip to Aswan from Luxor, or a few days in Nubia. I was able to learn some truths about Egypt while visiting the Nubian Museum. It is said that the Nubians are very similar to the ancient Egyptians, as Egypt has been invaded by the Arabs, British, and French and their look has changed. Go find out for yourself though 🙂.

Helpful Tips: Use the INDRIVE app to find out what the rates are for rides. When you do the Khan el-Khalili market, go to the market with a tour guide, or avoid all the bargaining mess and go to the store I went to *upstairs* I included a picture of the name of the store, where all the prices are marked and fair and there is no haggling. I bought most of my souvenirs there.

PROTIP: The tourism industry in Egypt is ABNORMALLY corrupt and you will need a SOLID tour guide. It’s hard to find a solid one because they are all trying to make a MAJOR come up off you. I have no problem with people earning a profit, but group activities with no tour guide (like the visit to Abu Simbel) that can cost no more than $20USD, they will charge you $80-100 for with a big crap eating smile, so research the market rates and find someone who is charging decent prices.

Budget priced but NICE! SenegalStyle B&B HomeStay GuestHouse - $55 a night solo, $75 for 2!

Email [email protected] to insure that I see your message and I WILL PERSONALLY BOOK YOU ONLINE IN ADVANCE to insure availability. SenegalStyle can also arrange 24hr airport pickup service ($50) and take care of your touring needs as well! My name is Sineta George and I’m originally from Pensacola, FL. I moved to Senegal with 3 children in 1999 and didn’t know anyone nor did I speak the language! lol! I still have the worst wolof/french EVER but I have put together places and spaces for other English speakers to use and enjoy while here. You don’t have to be fluent in French to visit Senegal because contrary to internet mythology, MANY PEOPLE speak/understand English. It’s mandatory in school starting in 5th grade and they learn every single year up thru high school and continuing in college. So don’t worry, you’ll be fine!

If you would like to take a month or two to LEARN WOLOF, FRENCH, ARABIC or AFRICAN DRUMMING my business name is SenegalStyle - you can google me for background information. IMPORTANT: do this with ANY PERSON/ORGANIZATION you plan to do business with here and EVERYWHERE.

If their online info is not complete, vetted by other people and easily verifiable, that’s a red flag so use your common sense!

We have study abroad programs fully detailed on GoAbroad.com and associated sites so feel free to ask me about these opportunities as well as volunteer tourism.
