"I ended up eating at Sugar & Spice in Kata multiple times during my stay — which honestly says it all. The quality of the food is fantastic every single time. Everything is full of flavour, fresh, and beautifully presented. Whether you’re craving authentic Thai dishes or something more familiar, the menu has so many great options.

The staff are always friendly and welcoming, and the service is quick without making you feel rushed. The restaurant has such a nice, relaxed atmosphere too — clean, comfortable, and the perfect spot to cool down and enjoy a proper meal.

Prices are very reasonable for the quality and portion sizes. It easily became one of my go-to places in Kata, and I’d happily go back again.

Highly recommend if you’re in the area!"

Queen Sirikit, the mother of Thailand's King Vajiralongkorn, has died aged 93.

She passed away peacefully in a Bangkok hospital at 21:21 local time (14:21 GMT) on Friday, according to the Thai Royal Household Bureau.

Sirikit had suffered several illnesses while in hospital since 2019, including a blood infection this month, it added.

For more than six decades, Queen Sirikit was married to Thailand's longest-reigning monarch, King Bhumibol Adulyadej, who died in 2016. In their globe-trotting heyday, she was seen as a style icon.

High season is just about upon us, it's getting busier at all three of Ohn's restaurants daily. Our staff is ready to get back to hard work again.

We just redid the menu at Sugar Shack and we'll post the new menu shortly. At Sugar Shack we feature more Western food than we do at the other two restaurants, Sugar and Spice and Spice! by Sugar and Spice. Here are some of the things our staff have come up with over the summer.

Ohn and Sugar and Spice were featured on the "Best Ever Food Review Show" on YouTube. Their very professional production team (they travel everywhere all the time) contacted us and asked Ohn to make Gaeng Tai Pla for the show, one of Southern Thailand's notoriously smelly and spicy curries. She tried to talk them out of presenting that dish and do something more people like to eat, but they insisted. Now that we see the full show, we understand what they were doing and why they wanted Gaeng Tai Pla.

Ohn being Ohn, she took her assignment very seriously and found out how to make this gooey gunky stinky stuff and make it not only edible, but delicious. It took her and her amazing team a few weeks to come up with her best recipe. She also scoured the local markets to find the best Tai Pla, the fermented fish sauce that is the heart of the recipe. She'd never made it before but growing up in a southern Thai rubber-growing village, she had plenty of family and close friends to ask how to make it delicious and find out what exactly it's supposed to taste like. And she succeeded!

Enjoy the show. With 12 million subscribers it will be seen around the world. But note to the general public, we don't serve this dish at our restaurant. But if you want her to make it for you, please give us plenty of advanced notice.

Like Gaeng Som, some people like it, foreigners and Thais, but many do not. But that's OK, that's why Thai food is the best in the world. We've got everything.
