Thailand is considering a 450-baht foreign tourist fee and a 1,000-baht departure tax, adding to AOT’s 1,120-baht international PSC.

Thailand is moving towards two additional charges on air travel alongside the 1,120-baht international passenger service charge already collected by Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT), potentially bringing the combined cost to 2,570 baht for eligible foreign travellers subject to all three charges.

The three measures are at different stages. The higher passenger service charge (PSC) is already in effect, while a 450-baht foreign tourist fee and a 1,000-baht departure tax remain proposals.

🇹🇭 Thailand’s visa rules change on September 15 here’s what tourists and expats need to know

Thailand will introduce revised tourist entry rules from tomorrow, September 15, 2026, ending the 60-day visa exemption previously available to travellers from 93 countries and territories.

Under the new system:

🔹 60 countries and territories will receive a visa-free stay of up to 30 days
🔹 Mauritius and Seychelles will receive a 15-day visa exemption
🔹 Azerbaijan, Belarus and Serbia will remain eligible for Visa on Arrival for up to 15 days
🔹 Visa-exempt entries through land borders will generally be limited to twice per calendar year, with some nationalities exempt
🔹 Separate bilateral agreements may continue to grant eligible passport holders stays of 14, 30 or 90 days

Travellers who entered Thailand before September 15 will keep the period already stamped in their passports. The new rules apply according to the date of entry—not when flights or accommodation were booked.

Eligible visitors admitted under the 30-day exemption may apply for an extension of up to another 30 days at a Thai immigration office. The application costs 1,900 baht and remains subject to approval.

The Thailand Digital Arrival Card, or TDAC, is still compulsory for almost all foreign arrivals. It must be submitted within the three days before arrival and is free through the official website

Visa-free entry does not guarantee admission. Travellers should be prepared to show accommodation details, an onward or return ticket, sufficient funds and documents explaining the purpose of their visit.

Frequent visitors and expats should also remember that visa exemption is intended for short-term tourism. Anyone planning to work, study, retire or remain in Thailand long-term should obtain the appropriate visa.

Check the rules applying to the passport you will use before travelling, particularly if your country was included in Thailand’s former 93-country scheme.

⚠️Thailand cuts visa-free stay to 30 days for travellers from 60 countries and territories. The new rules come into effect on September 15th.

Thailand has revised its tourist visa-exemption scheme, allowing passport holders from 60 countries and territories to stay visa-free for up to 30 days, replacing the previous longer stay permitted under the earlier scheme.

✅️The 60 countries and territories covered are:

Australia, Austria, Bahrain, Belgium, Bulgaria, Bhutan, Brunei Darussalam, Canada, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Fiji, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Iceland, Indonesia, India, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Japan, Jordan, Kuwait, Kyrgyzstan, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Malaysia, Maldives, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Oman, the Philippines, Poland, Portugal, Qatar, Romania, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Slovakia, Slovenia, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Taiwan, Türkiye, Ukraine, the United Arab Emirates, the United Kingdom and the United States.

🔴Travellers using the visa-exemption scheme through land-border checkpoints will generally be limited to two entries per calendar year. Passport holders from Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia and Singapore are exempt from this limit, along with other nationalities that may later be designated by the Interior Minister.

✅️Thailand has also introduced a separate 15-day visa exemption for passport holders from Seychelles and Mauritius. Those entering through land borders will generally also be limited to two entries per calendar year unless otherwise exempted.

✅️Meanwhile, passport holders from Azerbaijan, Belarus and Serbia will be eligible to apply for Visa on Arrival at Thai immigration checkpoints.

The changes mark a significant adjustment to Thailand’s entry rules for international visitors, particularly long-stay tourists who have relied on visa-exempt entry.

⚠️Travellers planning a trip to Thailand are advised to check the latest entry conditions before departure, particularly if they intend to make repeated entries through land borders.

Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Malta, Maldives and India were listed among six countries added to the 30-day visa-exemption group, bringing all 27 EU member states under the same entitlement.

The Cabinet first approved the overhaul on 19 May, but Tuesday’s decision revised the proposed country lists before the new rules take effect.

The Cabinet confirming that the blanket 60-day stay for travellers from 93 countries and territories will be replaced by shorter, country-specific entitlements.

Under the revised plan, 59 countries and territories will receive 30-day visa-free entry, while Mauritius and Seychelles will receive 15 days. Visa on Arrival will remain available to nationals of Azerbaijan, Belarus and Serbia.

The changes are not yet in force. They will take effect 15 days after publication in the Royal Gazette, while travellers admitted under the current rules will retain the stay already granted to them.

The Immigration Bureau has developed the THIM (Thailand Immigration Management) application to facilitate foreign nationals in registering their information digitally prior to entering Thailand.

The THIM application enables users to complete registration via mobile devices. Foreign travelers can scan their passports, allowing the system to automatically read and record personal information. They can then provide accommodation details, travel information, and the purpose of their visit through the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) system. This process simplifies procedures and reduces processing time to an average of no more than three minutes per person. The application also supports group registrations for up to ten travelers at the same time.

In addition, the Immigration Bureau plans to further develop THIM into a comprehensive Super App for foreign nationals. The platform will eventually provide a full range of immigration-related services, including application submissions, document requests, appointment scheduling, and online tracking of application status. These features will reduce the need for in-person visits and help alleviate congestion at immigration offices while maintaining effective oversight by immigration authorities.

THIM is currently available for download on a trial basis and is already linked to the TDAC system. The application supports four languages—English, Russian, Japanese, and Chinese—with plans to expand support to at least 15 additional languages in the future. Full official implementation is scheduled for August 2026, with the goal of enhancing the travel experience and advancing Thailand’s transition toward an internationally recognized digital immigration system.

If you are traveling to Thailand, keep in mind that immigration is strictly enforcing financial requirements for arriving tourists, with random cash checks taking place at major airports including Bangkok and Phuket. Travelers entering visa free and/or on tourist visas must carry at least 20,000 THB (or the equivalent amount in other currency) per person or 40,000 THB(or the equivalent amount in other currency) per family in physical cash . V.O.A. visitors must show 10,000 THB per person or 20,000 THB per family.
Officials say digital banking apps, credit cards, and online bank statements may not be accepted during spot checks. Travelers unable to present the required funds risk being denied entry and deported at their own expense✈️🇹🇭

Thailand to scrap 60-day visa-free stay, return to previous entry rules

The Cabinet has approved the cancellation of the 60-day visa-free stay scheme for visitors from more than 90 countries, with affected travellers set to return to previous entry rules, Tourism and Sports Minister Surasak Phancharoenworakul said on Tuesday.

Surasak said the government would reinstate the former visa criteria, under which most visitors are expected to receive stays of around 30 days. The move also applies to countries with multiple visa arrangements.

He said relevant agencies would be notified to implement the Cabinet resolution. The minister added that the Visa Policy Committee would review visa measures on a country-by-country basis to determine suitable visa categories, taking into account security and economic factors.

[Update] The measures will take effect 15 days after three related Interior Ministry announcements are published in the Royal Gazette.

Foreign visitors already in Thailand or arriving before the new measures take effect will still be allowed to remain under their existing visa conditions until their permitted stay expires.
