Literally on our doorstep there is Wat Tewaraj, the National Library, the bustling local Thewet market and the permanent blaze of colour that is the daily local flower market. The Chao Prao River is a short stroll along the canal and riverboats stop at the local pier (Thewet, pier 15) every few minutes. This gives you a great chance to see Bangkok from the water and an easy, cheap and hassle-free way to get to Chinatown and all the other places of interest along the river. The main shopping areas of MBK (clothing, mobile phones, general) Pantip (I.T. computers, software etc) Emporium and Central (upmarket fashion designer labels and goods etc) are easily reached by local bus (16, 505) taxi or tuk tuk (three-wheeler)
The guest house is built in traditional Thai style using traditional materials. Teak flooring and wood-panelled walls with open brickwork, stone and ceramic. Wooden ceiling fans and tastefully understated Thai décor create an elegant yet relaxed and warm ambience. Cleaning, polishing and dusting takes place daily and by any standards the rooms and the communal areas are immaculate. The ground floor has a restaurant with an extensive menu and a comfortable lounge area, sofas, television etc with an open frontage to the street, ideal for people watching. The accommodation above, ranges from simple rooms with ceiling fan and shared facilities, to larger rooms with AC, (optional) en suite bathrooms and balconies overlooking the pretty street. The facilities available include: laundry, fully qualified traditional Thai massage, an internet café with a fast connection and wireless LAN for usage of your laptop in your room or lounge area
The manager speaks English well and is happy to arrange tours and travel to many destinations around Thailand. Also information on shopping and sightseeing within Bangkok. All in all, an ideal base for exploration of Bangkok or just to stay and enjoy the rhythm of this absorbing and entertaining area. The daily parade, Bangkok’s brilliant street theatre of food vendors, sticker sellers, fruit sellers, balloon sellers, cafes, all made possible by the fact that the street (soi 15) ends at the river, minimizing traffic and providing an area of relative calm. If all this gets too much, you can stroll down to the waterfront and enjoy a cocktail in one of the stylish bars and restaurants, whilst watching the sun set over the magnificent Chao Prao River.
