"Song Wat road" (ถนนทรงวาด) has changed so much over the past few decades. What appears to be a vibrant touristy street, filled with specialty cafés, souvenir shops and cute check-in spots now, was unimaginable twenty years ago.
Back then, this used to be a cluster of trucks, tuk tuks and trolleys hurriedly uploading and unloading goods. Workers, tired from their shift from the morning maket before dawn, were cranky, loud and forever annoyed if innocent passerby walked too slowly or asked for direction. ☺️
As someone familiar with the district and a coffee enthusiast, I welcome and enjoy today's Song Wat, but am also often taken back to the time when it was strictly a busy commercial wholesale street, where I, walking at my own pace, got yelled at in Teochew (Chao Zhou) dialect! 🙃
📍Direction from Baan Sathorn 21:
- ⛴️10 minutes boat ride (orange flag) from Sathorn pier to Ratchawong pier, and then you're there!
- 🚶♀️Up for some walk? Song Wat is 2.9 kilometers from Baan Sathorn 21, approximately 40 minutes walk, according to Google Map. Enjoy more pretty shops and cafés with rustig decor along Charoen Krung long along the way.
