Good Morning @ Happy Tuesday everyone *-*-*

Bor Sang umbrella and Sankampaeng handicraft Festival 2016

Date 15 - 17 Jan 2016

Bor Sang, on highway 1006 heading east from Chiang Mai, appears to be a typical sleepy rural village, the kind the tour bus speeds by giving you just a fleeting glimpse of its two-storey wooden houses. But hidden in the tiny lanes, villagers have perfected a craft that creates the country’s most famous umbrellas.

For more than 100 years, the village has been associated with the production of umbrellas made from Saa paper derived from mulberry tree bark. According to local history, a monk travelled to neighbouring Myanmar, where he came across Saa paper umbrellas that offered protection against both the sun and rain.

He returned with the production technique and introduced the umbrella to the elders of Bor Sang village, who added their own artistic skills to create a distinctive colourful, but very practical, umbrella. At first it was just a profitable hobby that supplemented the villagers’ earnings from the annual rice crop. However, with time production of the Saa paper umbrellas prospered, prompting villagers to establish a handicraft cooperative in 1941 that now organises the annual festival.

Using silk and cotton, weaved at neighbouring Sankampaeng, villagers eventually added a second line of umbrellas decorated with images of the north, its flowers and birds, all intricately hand-painted.

Today, Bor Sang village exports both Saa-paper and silk umbrellas. They are seen at trade shows in a variety of sizes, from giant parasols that offer a shady canopy from the sun, to miniscule variations that adorn popular cocktail drinks.

To celebrate success the village hosts a three-day festival every January. Streets are illuminated by lanterns, while hundreds of umbrellas are hung from the rafters and beams of houses and shops. Bands play, while villagers compete to design the year’s most attractive umbrella. Concerts, a food festival and beauty contest all compete for the attention of the audience, a mix of both tourists and residents, who gather here to celebrate Bor Sang’s innovative handicraft skills.

Throughout the year, tourists visit the village, a short 6 km drive from Chiang Mai, to buy umbrellas and study the process and skills that go into making a handicraft entirely from natural products. But nothing quite compares with the buzz that permeates the village during this colourful three-day handicraft festival, every January. It is a scene that represents village hospitality and charm at its very best.

Good Morning @ End of the year of 2015 ***

Tonight we will countdown to the beginning of the new year 2016.

Today we're glad to recommended ... Suan Son Pradipat Beach..

Located on the other side of Khao Takieb about 8km south of Hua Hin town is Suan Son Pradipat beach meaning Sea Pine Tree Garden Beach. Much quieter than it's neighbour Hua Hin beach but not without it's own charms. The beach and the adjoining land is owned by the Thai Army Welfare Office.
At the north end of Suan Son Pradipat beach nearest Khao Takieb there are many beach restaurants and a few hotels such as the Anantasila Hua Hin hotel. Here you can rent sunloungers or deckchairs shaded by beach umbrellas. You can also rent Jet Ski's, play on banana boats or go for a horse ride.
Further south on the beach on the land owned by the Thai Military there is a large hotel and some bungalows available for rent originally only for use by military personel and their families but they are now available to the public. There is also a restaurant on the beach and deck chairs, tables and unbrellas for rent. This part of the beach is popular with Thai people on the weekends.
Suan Son Beach is over 6km long stretching all the way from Khao Takieb to Khao Tao (Turtle Hill). The beach hasn't the soft white sand as Hua Hin beach but it is never busy and most of the beach is lined with sea pine trees and is mostly free from developments and hotels. The water is shallow and you can walk far out from the beach into the ocean before reaching any depth, ideal for children to play in.
In 2009 construction of a golf course adjacent Suan Son Beach beach was started which has since been completed.

To get here follow the Phetchkasem Road south from Hua Hin. Take a left turn at the Hua Hin Soi that goes into the Suan Son Army Camp. There is a military check point to go through. Just tell the guard you are visiting the beach and you will be allowed through. Go over the railway tracks and follow the road around to the left which will take you to the beach car park and cafeteria. A right will take you to the army hotel.

Patong
Patong Beach is the most popular and well-developed beach on Phuket Island. Long recognized as one of the world's Top 10 diving sites, Phuket is now Thailand's most important tourist destination, offering a variety of beaches, attractions and exciting night life.

Phuket Island

Phuket Island has 17 sandy beaches.

Patong BeachThis photo is from Patong Beach. Take a look in our photo gallery for more beach photos.
Koh Phuket is Thailand's largest Island. It is 50 km long north to south and 21 km wide and joined to the mainland by Sarasin bridge.
Phuket has been inhabited since the early days of mankind by ancient tribes and this still keeps archaeologists occupied to find out the history from the early days.
On the ancient maps of the region around Thailand's South West coast, the name Junk Ceylon can be seen describing a way station on the route between India and China where seafarers stopped to shelter. This Island is today known as Phuket.

Phuket Island was assumed by geologists to be once part of the mainland in the form of a cape sticking out into the Andaman Sea but millions of years later the cape was gradually eroded by natural forces and finally detached from the main land.

One of the first known traces of Phuket is from a book written around the year 157 by Claudius Ptolemy, a famous Greek philosopher, that to travel to Malay Peninsula by ship, the travelers had to pass a cape known as Junk Ceylon. Located between latitudes 6 N and 8 N (which is the present site of Phuket Island), Junk Ceylon was at that time visited by merchants of several nations including India, Persia, and Arabia. The island offered a bay that protected its harbor from the wind and monsoon, making it a good stopover. Moreover, it had plenty of tin ore deposits that fetched high prices at that time.

heroic sistersA memorable moment in Phuket history was when a passing sea captain, Francis Light, sent word that the Burmese were en route to attack. Forces in Phuket were assembled led by the two heroines, Kunying Jan, Thao Thep Krasattri, wife of Phuket's recently deceased governor, and her sister Mook, Thao Si Sunthon. There was a shortage of men so she allegedly ordered 500 women to dress as soldiers with coconut palms daubed in soot to look like weapons. This tactic seemed to delay a full-on Burmese attack. After a month's siege the Burmese were forced to depart on 13 March, 1785. Kunying Jan and her sister were credited with the successful defense.
The Burmese attacked Phuket three more times between 1809-12 but armed forces from Bangkok arrived in time to repel further Burmese onslaughts. With Burma's capitulation to the British, ensured that there would be no more Burmese invasions of Thailand.

During the Nineteenth Century Chinese immigrants arrived in such numbers to work for the tin mines that the ethnic character of the island's interior became predominantly Chinese, while the coastal settlements remained populated essentially by Muslim fishermen.

In Rama V's reign, Phuket became the administrative center of a group of tin mining provinces called Monton Phuket, and in 1933, with the change in government from absolute monarchy to a parliamentary system, the island was established as a province by itself.

It was not until 1967 that Sarasin Bridge was built to connect the main land with Phuket.

Tin mining industry has played a specially important role in the economic development of the island province but it has declined especially after 1985 when the price of tin fell by half. Other important products of Phuket are marine products, latex, rubber, fuel oil and frozen fish.

With the opening of an international airport in 1976, Phuket effectively became a tourist economy. Over 4 million tourists arrived to Phuket in year 2002 and they spent about 72 billion baht on the island.

The permanent Island Population consists of a total of 292,245 (end 2005) with 140,703 males and 151,542 females. They consist of Thai-Buddhist, 71%; Muslim 25%; and Chao Le (Sea Gypsy) 4%. The majority of population live in Phuket town and at Patong Beach.

Thalang Museum Phuket ThailandThalang National Museum
If you want to learn more about the history of Phuket we recommend a visit to the Thalang National Museum. This museum was established in 1985 in Thalang just 200 meters from the Heroines Monument. Built in a southern architectural style, the museum exhibits the Battle of Thalang, the way of life, culture and history of Phuket and the South.

Photo Patong Beach 1977 ?

Patong Beach is a beach on Phuket's west coast. It is the main tourist resort in Phuket and contains the centre of Phuket's nightlife and cheap shopping on the island. The beach became popular with western tourists, especially Europeans, in the late 1980s. Numerous large hotels and chain hotels are located in Patong

Patong Beach is maybe more famous for its nightlife than the 2-kilometer beach that runs the entire length of Patong. Nightlife is centered on two main areas Bangla Road and Paradise Complex, with Bangla Road being predominantly straight and Paradise Complex being predominantly gay. Much mixing of the two scenes occurs due to Phuket Island's tolerant nature.

Good morning @ Wonderful Saturday **-**

Countdown for new year is coming !

Today we're glad to recommended .. Hua Hin Night Market ...

Situated in the Hua Hin centre between the Petchkasem Road and the railway line, the market basically encompasses one street that comes to life from 18:30 onwards, when traders line the street with their stalls selling various apparel, crafts, art, CDs, DVDS and cheap, tasty food – generally what you might expect from a Thai market. This is by no means the best place to shop in Thailand; you will finder a bigger variety of goods in Bangkok or say, Chiang Mai. However, Hua Hin does have a superb selection of seafood restaurants that line the road that hosts the Night Market, drawing a lot of attention from visitors eager to feast on the quality dishes on offer.
Hua Hin Night Market
What To Do In Hua Hin Night Market

Entertainment
Like Chiang Mai Night Bazaar, the mere market experience is entertainment in itself. Here is where you can get a real grasp of local culture and opportunity by practicing your Thai during the bartering process. Even if nothing on offer suits your fancy, just walking around and soaking up the atmosphere is a great source of entertainment with the various street vendors and live entertainers around.

Most of the restaurants on the street double as bars where you can enjoy a beer or cocktail while watching the crowds move up the street. At the top end of the street moving away from the sea, you will come to Prapokklao Road, which is lively street consisting of shops, bars and restaurants.

Seafood
The seafood restaurants in this part of town are incredibly popular due to their atmosphere, quality of food and Thai-style low prices. With minimal space between each establishment, you can pretty much expect the same thing from each place and prices that closely compare to their neighbours’. Each restaurant usually has a small vending station outside where food is both prepared and sold on a street food basis. The usual seafood ice trays laden with freshly caught fish, crab and lobsters might help sway your choice – the bigger the better.

From experience we can recommend that Khaimuk, Rod Yai and Ko Seafood are all worthy choices with excellent food coming in wholesome portions for a lot less than you will pay in the west. Other than seafood, steaks and western-style BBQ dishes can be easily found.

Check out our Hua Hin Dining Page for more information.

What to Buy
Primarily, Hua Hin Night Market is a place to indulge in food and drink but that is not to say that the shopping should go unmissed. As any savvy market-goer will testify, finding the good stuff is more often than not about getting into the thick of it – keep your ears and eyes peeled in other words. The sort of stuff you can expect to see goes along the lines of jewelry, crafts, some Buddhist tokens, beachwear, funky lamps and some counterfeit goods. The counterfeit goods here don’t feature as prominently as say, Bangkok, but you can still get your hands on a good ‘Chanel’ handbag or pair of ‘Adidas’ trainers.

Women’s fashions in the form of dresses, skirts, shirts and tops feature quite prominently as do accessory stands where intricate, hand crafted pieces can be bought. Essentially this is a good area for some pre- or post-dinner shopping, especially if you’re looking to buy souvenirs or traditional Thai crafts.

Opening Hours: 18:00 to 23:00 ( Best time to go after 19:00 )

Good Morning @ Happy Christmas day everyone !!!

Hope our Guest enjoy this warming day with who your love & your family .

We wish you a Merry Christmas .. *-*

Christmas in Bangkok ...

Christmas in Bangkok
Bangkok Events & Festivals

Christmas in Bangkok, like everywhere else, means big business. This is the time of the year when the city's hotels enjoy maximum occupancy, and when shopping malls dazzle and delight visitors with decorations, displays, events and promotions that are designed to make consumer goods fly off the shelves. Shopping, in fact, along with eating and partying the night away, takes high prominence on everyone's agendas.

The real show-stopper, however, is the Christmas lights. Buildings, trees, bridges, lamp poles and sometimes even tuk-tuks and pavement food stalls are adorned with colourful, twinkling lights, turning Bangkok into a fairy wonderland. In fact, if you stand still for long enough, chances are good that somebody might even decorate you with lights (kidding!). But that Thai people's love of creative lighting and festivities get the better of them, that's a fact.

Let's take a Christmas lights walking tour
A stroll along Rachadamri Road (get off at Rachadamri Skytrain station), past The Four Seasons Hotel (great tree!), The Peninsula Plaza (the most photographed Christmas lights feature in the city) - complete with a gingerbread house and reindeer barn - The Grand Hyatt Erawan Hotel, The Erawan (mall) and Amarin Plaza, is a delightful 'Christmas lights walking tour' for the whole family to enjoy.

From the intersection of Rachadamri and Rachaprasong Roads, make a right turn and continue walking for about 100 metres (past Amarin Plaza and McDonalds) until you get to an escalator which will take you up to the skywalk. From here you can gawk at the impressive tree in front of the InterContinental Hotel on the other side of the road, before making your way (still on the skywalk) past Gaysorn and down the stairs to CentralWorld Square, where local beer brands have set up beer gardens with nightly live concerts throughout December.

With refreshments out of the way, make a note to have a look at the Christmas tree inside CentralWorld as well (the largest one, mentioned earlier, is at CentralWorld Square in front of the mall and next to the beer garden). Then it's time to continue our do-it-yourself walking tour. With the skywalk connection between CentralWorld and the Offices at CentralWord, you can walk all the way to Siam, above the traffic, until you get to the so-called 'Pride of Bangkok', the massive Siam Paragon. The palm trees in front of this gigantic mall are beautifully illuminated with purple lights, making for quite a contemporary, space-aged effect. Right next to Siam Paragon are Siam Centre and Siam Discovery, with another beer garden set up between the latter two. The whole area around Siam Square is drenched in a festival mood with more Christmas trees and lights to check out.

If you have any energy left at this stage, the famous MBK can be reached with another skywalk from the second level of Siam Discovery, with equally impressive decorations adorning the outside and inside of this shopping monument. This 'walking tour' is just one of Bangkok's areas that undergo a seasonal metamorphosis. Other areas worth taking a taxi to are Chinatown, Khao San Road, Ratchadamnoen Road and, of course, the famous riverside. Here, it is not so much the area that is all 'tarted up' with lights, but the floating restaurants and party boats that transport revelers up and down the Chao Phraya River.

Good Morning @ A little Bit Cold Sunday !

SUNFLOWER FIELDS :)

During the winter months of November and December, cheery yellow sunflower fields spring up along the PhatthanaNikhom-Wang Muang Road, offering a relaxing distraction to those passing by.

The hardy flowering plants are usually grown as a substitution crop for off-season rice fields or other crop fields. They are an economically valuable plant providing not only benefits from harvesting, but also generating income from tourism. Sunflowers are the source of delicious dried sunflower seeds, sunflower seed cookies, chips, crispy sheets, sunflower honey, bee pollen, royal jelly, and more.

The fields are found between Lop Buri and Saraburi, along the PhatthanaNikhom–Wang Muang route. For more information, contact the Wang Mueang District Agriculture Office at 0 3635 9021.
