a year, Chiang Mai celebrates one of the most important Lanna traditions — the worship of the sacred “Inthakhin Pillar” (the City Pillar of Chiang Mai), believed to bring prosperity, peace, protection, and abundance to the city and its people. This long-standing tradition is locally known as “Month 8 In, Month 9 Out” in the northern lunar calendar.

🙏 The Inthakhin Flower Offering Festival is considered one of Chiang Mai’s most treasured cultural heritages, reflecting the deep faith, spiritual identity, and enduring beauty of Lanna culture passed down through generations.
🌺 “12 Khan Inthakhin Offerings” refers to the traditional arrangement of 12 ceremonial flower trays prepared as sacred offerings for blessings and merit-making.
The number 12 symbolizes important concepts in Lanna beliefs, including:
• The 12 zodiac animals
• The 12 months of the year
• Completeness, harmony, and prosperity in life and the kingdom
Each offering tray typically contains flowers, incense, candles, and traditional devotional items. Popular Lanna flowers include marigolds, jasmine, safflower, and orchids, all offered in reverence to the Inthakhin Pillar — the spiritual guardian believed to protect Chiang Mai and bring peace and well-being to the city.
