THE LEVEL SOLE
Curatorial Statement

The Level Sole, a solo exhibition by Eakarin Jaroenrat, a Chiang Mai based artist, emerges from a period of loss and renewal. In 2024, the artist’s studio was severely affected by a major flood that destroyed a large part of his previous works - a loss that could never be restored. Yet this experience became a pivotal moment, compelling him to confront impermanence and rediscover resilience through the act of creation.

In this exhibition, Eakarin returns to the essence of his artistic practice with quiet determination and sincerity. The title "The Level Sole" carries dual meanings: “Level” suggests equilibrium, steadiness, and integrity, while “Sole” refers both to the foot that touches the earth and the soul that holds memory and meaning. Through this layered metaphor, the artist examines the delicate relationship between the tangible and the intangible, between what has been lost and what endures.

Each work serves as a “reflection upon water” - a convergence of fragility and strength, a process of healing that transforms rupture into resilience. The Level Sole invites viewers to contemplate how art can ground the self : turning devastation into reflection, and reflection into a serene affirmation of being.

นิทรรศการ The Level Sole โดย เอกรินทร์ เจริญรัตน์ ศิลปินจากจังหวัดเชียงใหม่ เกิดขึ้นจากช่วงเวลาแห่งความสูญเสียและการฟื้นคืนพลังสร้างสรรค์ ภายหลังเหตุน้ำท่วมครั้งใหญ่ในปี พ.ศ. 2567 ซึ่งสร้างความเสียหายต่อผลงานศิลปะจำนวนมาก เป็นความสูญเสียที่ไม่อาจย้อนคืนได้ ทว่ากลับกลายเป็นจุดเปลี่ยนสำคัญที่ทำให้ศิลปินต้องเผชิญหน้ากับความไม่เที่ยง และค้นพบพลังแห่งการยืนหยัดผ่านการสร้างสรรค์อีกครั้ง

ในนิทรรศการนี้ ศิลปินได้หวนกลับสู่รากฐานทางศิลปะของตนด้วยความตั้งมั่นและความจริงแท้ภายใน ชื่อ The Level Sole สะท้อนมิติของความหมายสองประการ - “Level” หมายถึงความสมดุล ความมั่นคง และความซื่อตรงในจิตใจ ขณะที่ “Sole” หมายถึงทั้งฝ่าเท้าที่สัมผัสดินและจิตวิญญาณที่แบกรับความทรงจำและความหมายไว้ในตัว ภายใต้บทสนทนาเชิงสัญลักษณ์นี้ ศิลปินสำรวจความสัมพันธ์อันละเอียดอ่อนระหว่างสิ่งที่เป็นรูปธรรมและสิ่งที่เป็นนามธรรม ระหว่างสิ่งที่สูญสลายและสิ่งที่ยังคงดำรงอยู่

ผลงานแต่ละชิ้นในนิทรรศการจึงเปรียบเสมือน “ภาพสะท้อนบนผิวน้ำ” ที่หลอมรวมความเปราะบางและความเข้มแข็งไว้ด้วยกัน เป็นกระบวนการเยียวยารอยแยกของอดีต และแปรเปลี่ยนความสูญเสียให้กลายเป็นพลังแห่งการฟื้นคืน The Level Sole เชิญชวนผู้ชมให้ร่วมพินิจว่า ศิลปะสามารถเป็นพลังที่หยั่งรากให้กับตัวตน - เปลี่ยนหายนะให้เป็นการทบทวน และเปลี่ยนการทบทวนให้กลายเป็นถ้อยคำอันสงบนิ่งแห่งการดำรงอยู่ได้อย่างไร

นิ่งเงียบกลางสายตา คือการเดินทางผ่านภาพถ่ายที่บันทึกความเงียบงามในพื้นที่ธรรมดาของชีวิตประจำวัน *** ร้านกาแฟหลังช่วงเร่งรีบ ป้ายรถเมล์ที่ไร้ผู้คน โปสเตอร์ที่ติดอยู่บนผนัง บันไดที่อาบแสงบ่าย พื้นที่เหล่านี้คือฉากชีวิตที่เรามักเดินผ่านโดยไม่รู้ตัว แต่เมื่อได้อยู่กับมันอย่างสงบ พื้นที่เหล่านี้กลับกลายเป็นกระจกสะท้อนภายใน ที่ไม่ได้เผยความว่างเปล่า แต่กลับเผยให้เห็น “การมีอยู่” อย่างลึกซึ้ง

นิทรรศการนี้นำพาเราเข้าสู่ความย้อนแย้งของความโดดเดี่ยวในสถานที่สามัญ - ที่ซึ่งการแยกตัวจากโลกภายนอก อาจกลายเป็นการเชื่อมโยงลึกซึ้งกับตัวตน และบางสิ่งที่กว้างใหญ่กว่า สองศิลปินนำเสนอภาพถ่ายที่ไม่ได้สื่อถึงความเหงา แต่ส่องประกายด้วยแสงของความหมายใหม่ ภาพที่เผยให้เห็นว่า แม้ในความเงียบงัน ชีวิตยังหายใจ และเปล่งประกายมนต์สะกดออกมาจากความธรรมดา

ภาพถ่ายที่เชื้อเชิญผู้ชมให้หยุดมอง-ให้ช้าลง เพื่อค้นหาความหมายในความนิ่ง และเห็นความงามในสิ่งที่เคยมองข้าม

We are delighted to present Stillness in Plain Sight, an evocative photo exhibition by Rath Chun and Malcolm McLoughlin.

About the Artists

Rath Chun is a documentary filmmaker and visual artist with a background in architecture. He holds a bachelor’s degree from Chulalongkorn University, pursued graduate studies at l’École Supérieure d’Architecture de Paris-Belleville, and earned an MA in Screen Documentary from Goldsmiths, University of London.
Rath’s creative practice moves fluidly across photography, filmmaking, and outdoor painting. He is drawn to the understated beauty of the everyday, using image-making as a contemplative space where inner thought and outer world meet. For Rath, the camera becomes a stage where the unseen reveals itself - where stillness speaks.

Malcolm McLoughlin began his photographic journey in the wake of personal loss. In January 2021, he received a Canon camera from a friend; a week later, his father passed away. Amid the pandemic’s stillness, he wandered the quiet streets of Paris, capturing the subtle poetry of absence and presence.
What began as an act of healing became the foundation of his artistic voice. Since then, he has photographed Nobel Laureates, leading photographers, concerts, and global events. Yet the streets of Paris remain his truest canvas. Stillness in Plain Sight marks his debut international exhibition.

About the Hosts

Aglaia—named after the Greek muse of beauty and brilliance - is a Paris-based creative initiative dedicated to the art of documentary storytelling. Founded in a city renowned as a haven for artists and visionaries, Aglaia supports filmmakers whose stories reflect courage, creativity, and social insight. By offering mentorship, production resources, and international platforms, Aglaia transforms lived experience into meaningful cinematic work.

Little ShelterBox is a cultural initiative under Little Shelter Hotel in Chiang Mai, committed to supporting artists, designers, and creative practitioners through exhibitions and public programming. As part of Chiang Mai’s growing creative ecosystem, Little ShelterBox champions contemporary culture and seeks to foster a city where art is not only seen, but deeply lived.

Stillness in Plain Sight is a photographic journey through the quiet spaces of everyday life *** coffee shop after the rush, empty bus stops, posters on the wall, stairwells filled with afternoon light. These are the places we pass through without pause, yet in solitude, they become mirrors. In them, we are met not with absence, but presence.

This exhibition explores the paradox of isolation in common places - how disconnection from the world can become a deep connection to oneself, and to something larger. These images from the lens of two artists, are not lonely - they are luminous. They show how, even in solitude, life breathes magic into the ordinary. The photographs invite viewers to slow down and see again: to find meaning in stillness, and beauty in things unnoticed.
