Gypsy Borneo

Born out of a spirit of rebellion towards mainstream consumerism with an objective towards sustainability, Gypsy Borneo Handcrafts is dedicated to honoring ancient traditional crafts and bringing awareness towards conscious consumption. With this ideology in mind, Gypsy Borneo is about giving recycled materials a new life with a new purpose. We source materials from the source and use only materials derived from products that have finished their journey in one life and give them a new one.

The beginning of Gypsy Borneo Handcrafts originated in Panama where I found myself without money and volunteering in hostels and farms for months. As I was cleaning out the storage room of one hostel, I found an old leather briefcase which looked like it had some amazing stories to tell. As it turns out, the 40 year old briefcase had been fabricated in Germany and had traveled the world in a sailboat for 20 years crossing the atlantic ocean and the caribbean sea, living on some off-beaten islands. Hearing the travel stories gave me the inspiration to recycle pieces of the case and to give it a new life by turning them into travel journals, allowing it in some manner to continue its travels. I then turned the briefcase into 5 travel journals which helped me raise enough money to travel to continue my nomadic journey.

While traveling around the world, encountering fascinating lands, people, communities and their arts and crafts as well as collecting heaps of recycled materials, I started to fuse them all together into artistically designed yet functional travel items. With my combined passions for journaling, crafting and living a sustainable lifestyle, my handicrafts are made with eco friendly practices for the conscious stepper in this world. As each and every one of my creations are made one of a kind, as individual as we are, I hope to continue to inspire people with the simple idea to live authentically from the heart.
