Yesterday, half of our team met up with our Yarders in Taipei :))

Some of you showed up with your friends and partners, which made it even more special.

One guest had stayed with us since our very first year in Bangkok, and came back to visit with snacks, so sweet!!

We spent the evening sharing food, snacks, and stories, talking from 5 to 8 without even noticing time passing 😅

There was also a really lovely moment where some of you met for the first time here and instantly became friends, already planning future trips to Thailand together.

It was such a simple but heartwarming kind of day :))!

Normal day at The Yard… until we got a mission from “Romain”!

He was looking for a “Khaen”, a traditional Thai bamboo mouth organ from the Northeast.
Which explains why it was sooo hard to find in Chiang Mai 😂

Our team tried to help… but no luck 😓

And then he came back with one!
Mission complete ✨ (he found it himself!)

Even though we couldn’t help in the end,
we’re really happy to be a small part of his journey

Yesterday we had a little picnic with our guests here in Korea 🇰🇷

Both us and you guys brought food, snacks, and beers to share, and we just sat, chatted, and hung out like we were back in Thailand

The second rule of happiness we embrace at The Yard is the freedom from ambition. We believe that travel should be a time to escape the pressure of always needing to be "more" or "better." Whether you are visiting The Yard Bangkok or our home in Northern Thailand, we invite you to simply be yourself. There is no social pressure here, no forced activities, and no need to dress to impress, just a quiet space where you can exist as you are.

Some of our guests spend their entire day reading a book on a beanbag or just watching the sky from the garden. We provide the space, but you decide the pace. By stepping away from the need to compete or achieve, you create room for true relaxation. Catch Us If You Can: Bangkok or Chiang Mai?

It has been a year and a half since we started The Yard Chiangmai, and Som and I have been traveling non-stop! It’s become a bit of a "secret mission" for our friends and guests to track us down.

Recently, someone went on an epic quest to find us: traveling from Bangkok → Chiang Mai → and back to Bangkok, only to finally catch me in Bangkok just one day before I headed back to Chiang Mai! (We made it just in time! Haha).

To make it easier for you to plan your visit and "catch" us, here is our current routine:

🗓 Our Monthly Routine

- My Schedule: I split my time 50/50, usually 10 days in Bangkok followed by 10 days in Chiang Mai.
- Som’s Schedule: She’s a bit busier! Besides our main spots, she manages her own guesthouse located right between Bangkok and Koh Tao.

One day trip to Elephant Nature Park 🐘✨

This is a rescue and rehabilitation center where elephants can finally live in peace.

No riding, no feeding, no touching.
Just observing them in their daily life.

Most elephants here were rescued from riding camps, circuses, and street begging. Now they are safe, loved, and free.

It’s not just about elephants! This sanctuary also rescues dogs, cats, and even pigs.

A few years ago, the founder, P Lek, rescued many pigs from a truck accident, and yes, they all found a forever home right here.

By visiting ENP, you are directly supporting the care of all these beautiful animals.

At The Yard Hostel Chiang Mai, a garden hostel in the heart of Chiang Mai's Old City, we have many tables around the yard, but somehow our bean bags always win and become the most popular spot.

Every day it's the same cozy corner…
but different people, different conversations, different stories.

Morning coffee chats, afternoon book time, sunset beers.
Sometimes even the cat joins and claims the spot too 😂

It's lovely how the same place can hold so many little moments. We're always grateful to see these corners filled with new faces and new connections.

April is calling, and it's bringing the HEAT. ☀️🥵

Let's be real, April is the hottest month of the year here in Chiang Mai. While we love the sunshine, we also know how important it is to keep your cool.

Our common room with AC is wide open. If the outdoor sun is too much, grab a cold drink and chill with us inside. And please, drink more water than you think you need, dehydration sneaks up fast.

A little love for our AC: they're working overtime this month to keep your rooms comfortable. It might take a bit longer than usual to reach that perfect temperature, but they're trying their best, just like the rest of us. 🌡️

At The Yard Hostel Chiang Mai, we keep it simple and honest. Whether you're a budget traveler or a digital nomad looking for a comfortable base in Chiang Mai this April, not perfect, but always here to make sure you have a great stay, even when the thermometer is hitting the roof.
